Right ear swelling up after the shower

A few weeks ago I developed a condition that bothers me a lot. I've never heard of anyone having this particular problem. Everytime I finish washing my hair the inside of my right ear just swells up and blocks almost all the sounds. I end up having water in my ear that won't come out on its own. I have to pry the ear open and try to get it out drop by drop. I haven't seen a doctor about it yet because it doesn't hurt... it's just uncomfortable. Sometimes it takes hours before the swelling goes down and I can hear properly again. My left ear is just fine and I haven't had any similar problems. Does anyone have an idea what this might be and how do I get rid of it? Thank you

hi kate,
i think you go have to see a doctor for that, dont wait for something worst that could happen to you... let me tell you something, you may not even know this yet, but i am hearing impaired, i wasnt born one, i lost it six years ago...
it was a sudden loss of hearing mind you, i just woke up from a nap and then in a few minutes i cant hear anything anymore... yeah, its that fast... although i have no similar problems like what you are having now, and the doctor cant also explain what had happened to me, he called it sensorineural hearing loss.
okay so enough of mine... i'd say the best thing for you to do is go to the doctor have that thing going on in your ear checked-up so it can be given remedy right away at an early stage. you sure dont want to become hearing impaired like me, right?

Hi jayrene, thanks for your response. I had no idea you were hearing impaired and I'm sorry. I can't even imagine what a shock it must have been when you stopped hearing all of a sudden. You've just given me a major scare! I didn't even think about the fact that a silly swelling might grow into something worse.

yes it was... we were all crying, my whole family and a couple of my friends... it took me some months to get over it... and up to now i have no idea what caused it... the doc said it could be some infection, and i had undergone an ear surgery on my left ear, the findings were my ear drum was stuck and had gotten hard and my hearing bones were eroded and those were replaced, but i had benefited little from it.
it would sure do you well if you go to the doctor at least you will not be worrying over it and you will know what is causing it.
