Here is a sonnet I wrote for a friend with an aging cat

Don’t run to watch the birdies any more; don’t sit and watch them from the window sill; don’t eat the food in my dish on the floor; just want to lie in sunlight and be still. Don’t run to her each time I hear her voice; don’t sleep with her up on the big soft bed; I want to, but I just don’t have a choice; my bones are achy; I’ll lie here instead. I think back on the years I spent with her, remembering the playtimes and the fun; remembering her hand touching my fur; remembering the time when I was young. I know that soon I need to go away, I’ll stay a while so she can face that day. ©2009MargyO

Every tear helps healing, but I'll send you hugs instead.

Thank you for sharing that sad but tugging poem. I hope she can stay for the comfort and joy of living life...for her own self too. :o) But you have a way with words. Purrs to the older cat of your friend's.

Hi mscat19, That is so beautiful and yet so sad, reminded of my smudge, she lived for 23 years and she just got old and just sat in one place till she had to go away, just brought my the memory of Smudge, my black ande white cat. Thanks. Tamara

Smudge had a very good life with you, now she lives forever in your heart. Twenty-three is very long for a cat. You must be a wonderful cat-mom.

I'm sorry I made you cry, but I'm thrilled that you like my poem. I have funny ones in my book Cat-House Sonnets, 100 poems celebrating cats. Those don't get sad until the end of the book.

My cat is sick at the moment and I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow. I am quite worried about him so I won't read any sad ones just yet! You obviously have a gift, good on you, you are talented! Wish me luck at the vets!
