when is being concern become a controlling issue?

there are people, friends or family members that always say theyre doing this because theyre concern about you or your family. Like sometimes you are minding your own business and somebody walks in and tell you what to do or how you should do it. Even the way you decorate your house, some will say thsoliciat should be there and this should be there and the famous word "if i were you". I would say any unsolicited advice is controlling. how about you? what can you say about it, any experience on being controlled?

Some people have a hard time with boundaries. I know that I had to make adjustments when my oldest daughter moved out and again when she became a mother for the first time. Of course, I had more experience than she did in many areas and it was hard for me to bite my tongue...and I wasn't always able to. Sometimes it's best to just smile and continue to do things your way and sometimes you have to speak up or a particular person will drive you nuts!

i agree with you completely, boundaries are important, sometimes we have to draw the lines to avoid misunderstanding in the family. thank you

You need to meet my parents. It's always "You can't cross the street without a lifeguard" or "Is a parent going to be home" i can't stay home alone or go see a movie without my parents i can't go outside unless i have tennishoes on. i don't want to continue because im kinda at a time limit atm

i guess it depends on how old how are you then. Because if you are an adult then you have your own mind set and you know how to care of yourself.

Well, this world is full of controlling people. Question is, who is running your life? Advice is something that should never be discarded before you hear it. Listen to the advice of others but WALK YOUR OWN PATH!! If you don't follow another's advice, the one it bothers the most is the one who gave the advice. Stand on your own two feet. Live your own life never anothers.
