How do you get black hair dye out?

Hello! I have had my hair black for the past 6 months, last time i dyed it was March.
My hair has bad light coloured roots now, is there any way to get this out?
I dont really want to get it professionally stripped... is there any natural way to do this myself?

My sister had her hair dyed black and hated it. She was told she either had to let it grow out or have it bleached and then re-coloured. I think she ended up getting her hair cut and letting it grow out but that was ages ago so dont remember for sure what she did.
