When I was little, I wanted a Barbie doll so badly! All my friends had one. The Good Humor (ice cream) man's name was Ken and he used to joke about having a girlfriend named Barbie. Oh, how I wanted a Barbie doll!
But, my parents couldn't afford to get me one. I got an "imitation" Barbie doll, instead. I felt like such an outcast!
Years later... I'm talking decades here... my mother and stepfather gave me 3 vintage Barbie dolls for Christmas. This happened about 5 or 6 years ago. I was so THRILLED! They had found these Barbies while out shopping one day, still in their original boxes! I have them proudly on display in my office here.
I never aspired to look like Barbie, thank goodness! I was thin enough, although I didn't have two very prominent attributes that the original Barbie had: boobs. LOL I was skinny all over, not just around the waist.
Those are some cool pictures in that link! Thanks for sharing!!!
