America as world police, right or wrong? Right or wrong hardly applies here. A more correct word would be necessary. Necessary as in no one else is willing to do it. After being defeated in Kuwait, Saddam Hussein was condemed by UN resolution and ordered to refrain from certain acts. He defied the UN, ignored them. Did the UN do anything meaningful? Did anyone do anything about Saddam's illegal acts before the USA and some very loyal and brave allies took it upon themselves to do something about this international renegade? No, they did not. American does not want to be the world police. It costs too much. Brave soldiers die. Ignorant people through out the world condem you. The USA is being bankrupted by trying to be the world police. The USA would like to be finished with this thankless task. Would your country like to take it over?

Thanks, Balasri. I appreciate that. As to the US government giving my response, in fact , they do. That's where I got it. On rare occaisions the media will actually report the USA's side in regards to the Iraq war. I read one of those articles and realized it made a lot of sense.

When the UN has gone in to a military conflict it has been a disaster. They have not won or resolved a single military conflice. Look at the Korean Conflict and what we have now. A Democracy, backed by the US, that is a leading enoconomic power in the world, and a Dictator with a starving nation and nucular wepons. The Congo, waring tribes are still killing each other. The Middle East with resolutions condeming Isreal for attacts on thier neighbors, while the UN invites the Palinsitne leader to address the General Assembly wearing a side arm and still demanding the total distruction of Isreal. And in Africa the UN Peace Keepers are the ones raping teenage girls while using UN vechiles and the UN saying it will look into the problem. Now the UN troops in Lebabon say they will not stop the rearming of Heszabla, the peace keepers could not even stop the Heszabla from setting up rockets next to UN Bases to fire into civilians in Isreal. There is no other country, except Great Britian, that can act as the police of the world. It is thurst upon us by default. For evil men to prevail all it takes is for good men to do nothing.

The United Nations has outlived it's purpose and has become so corrupt nothing ever gets done. I don't think the United States is "policing" the world. I think they are taking measures to help keep its own citizens safe, such as removing dictators who support terrorist acts and helping the countries re-establish governments that will be an ally, not an enemy.

You may call a Police or anything according to the size of your thinking. But wont you think this world needs a Bold leader who can resist terrorism ? Many in UNO are silent spectators when it comes to terrorism. They want to act like good boys. When Trade Centre was attacked every one used big comforting words. But it was America had to fight back almost alone. It is easy for everyone to act like good boys and yap big words. If any calamity takes place in any part of the world it is always America who comes first to extend any help. Good boys rarely appear in such situations except in their speaches of sympathies..Bush is a practical man with honesty. He means his words. He is not like many other leaders who only speak with out actions. If Americans have not resisted Terrorism this world would have become a breeding place for terrorists. They would have multiplied in a greater measure than now.All those who disagree with me might be wanting terrorists to dominate our globe. In days to come good boys will know what a great sacrifice America has done to this world taking this pain of atacking terrorists losing their money and men and taking all the blames on themselves. The time has come that there is an urgent need of a world leader who is bold and kind like Bush. What would a parent do when his children are being attacked ? Wont he attack them back ? Bush knew his responsibility as a President towards his people ? Diplomacy doesnot work with the terrorists.Just think it over...

Yes, but the majority the UN won't do anything. They either stand back and do nothing or they do nothing because they are part of the problem. Take Germany and France during the Iraq war. They kept holding the UN back from doing anything. The reason: They were getting back door deals from Saddam and they didn't want to lose that. So they sabatouged the UN from doing anything.

No one else seems to stand up and does anything. When America goes and does whatthey do at least they try to rebuild. I know a lot doesn't think we should be the police of the world but they sure have their hands out for money from us when there is a naturla diaster and war or whatever....

Good comment. What other country ever rebuilt their defeated enemy into an equal with them. It remeinds me of something that my Mother was told when she had to make difficult decision regarding elderly reletives. People will strike out at those they love and hurt them because they know deep down that that person will always forgive them and take them back. At times it seems the rest of the world treats the US that way because in their time of need we will be there.

I'm not sure it's a matter of WANT to, it's more of a matter of WILLING to. Many countries have not proven they are able to govern themselves or they get totally beaten down by dictators. Then they become financially unstable and in the panic, they do crazy things. They act like out of control kids. So, someone has to take control for the safety of the rest of the world. Yes, the UN is designed to do this, but they've failed miserably in every attempt due to them not having the ability to keep their hands out of the cookie jar. I do think it would be nice if the USA could rotate the responsibility with some other contries, but it seems no one else is stepping up to the plate. Instead of thanking the USA, they get their panties in a wad over it, because they just have to be ashamed for not caring enough to help anyone but themselves.

The word America itself enough for some people to abuse without a reason. There is a deep rooted inability, jealousy and the natural hatred of the primitives against the civilised I think. You can see the people from America hating countries standaing in front of the us consulates for hours together to get into the country they talk ill of but to have thier dollars. If you dont like US attitude you got to boycott it .Why are you not doing it?

No, it should not be. The United Nations was created to do that function. Believe me, most Americans do not agree with our president's penchant for telling the rest of the world what to do. Hopefully next election we'll have a better choice of candidates than we had the last two.

I don't think we should be the world police, but someone has to do it. The UN is too corrupt. Take WW2 when Hitler was killing millions of people. Did anyone do anything about it? No. It took the US to step in before those atrocities would stop. Should everyone turn a blind eye to what some of these dictators are doing to their own people? We shouldn't turn a blind eye. To me, turning a blind eye means you accept what they are doing is correct. Plus, at least when we go into these other countries we help rebuild them afterwards.

Being a developed country and as a integral part of U.N it is its responsibility towards maintaining peace. But U.S has gone too far by bypassing U.N and inposing self sanctions on any country as it feels by acting a big daddy of World, Actually invading Iraq was a part of OIL politics that it wanted to take hold of and have a strong say in OIL pricing and its policies under the Banner of Weapons of Mass Destruction , Invading Afganistan was yet another master piece of making a strong presence in Asia by making Afganistan a U.S. military base in Asia to keep a tab on Developments by China, Russia, Iran etc.
