Now I was thinking of creating a list of Guitarists, but itd be a waste of time and people would, proabably complain about the list being One sided or old fashioned. So Im just going to give my opinion and also see what you guys think.
For me its kind of mixed. My top guitarisy would be, and always will be Jimi Hendrix. He is such a great Guitarist, and a great talent in his way of arranging his music as well, as the lyrics he vocates. He isnt the greatest vocalist in histoery, but isnt the worst. Dont get me wrong, my other favourite guitarists after hHendrix include Ritchie Blackmore, Angus Young, TOny Iommi and Brian May as well as Adrian Vandenburg, Carlos Santana and so on, and in that order, but Hnedirx is proably my favourite and, considered the best ever by most I think. A lot of guitarists are one sided in their approach, yet, there are some great guitarists. The best being the Viruosos in my mind, the guys that can play different styles, chords chage things around all the time, and are just awesome. The guys in my favourites are generally considered the best. But if it was for my faovurite it will have to be Hendrixc First.
What about you lot?

Jimmy Page...have you ever seen the video of him using a violin bow on an electric guitar? Yes, I'd have to say Jimmy Page. After him....Eric Clapton.

Well yes, i have seen Page do it, in a video, as I have also seen Adrian Vandenburg do it in a Whitesnake Vidoe, infact Still of the Night was the video, either at the MTV awards (1990 i think) and in the msuci video. And Claptoon is a good Blues Guitarist.

Well yeah, although, i beleive Still of the Night has always been labelled as Led Zeppelin inspired. Personally, Id go to a Whitesnake Concert before a Led Zedppelin Concert. And think Deep Purple, and definately Black Sabbath have a more direct influence on heavy Metal than Zep. Ritchie Blackmore is a much better virtuoso/guitarist than Page tho.

I will have to check that out...but I think Page was the first to do this, wasn't he? You may call it the inspiration behind the others trying it?

I hate questions like this. Hendrix and Clapton could certainly be included in the argument, without question. But, I think another one that could have a case that hasn't been mentioned yet is Stevie Ray Vaughn. I've not heard a lot of his stuff but I saw a couple of his videos on VH1 Classic recently and it blew my mind how quickly and smoothly he fingered the fretboard.

My 2 favourites are Carlos Santana and Tommy Emmanuel, because I have seen them both live.
I'm not a big guitar fan, but seeing Carlos make that guitar 'talk' was simply awesome, a great experience.

well, i haven't seen or heard most of the early greats like hendrix, jimmy page, and the lots. so i wouldn't like to comment on them. i'd agree with what most people say about them. i'm kinda new with guitar and have heard or seen the later generations(and maybe some earlier ones too). joe satriani, steve vai, yngwie malmsteen, carlos santana are all greats! kirk hammett and james hetfield of metallica are amazing! john frusciante of red hot chili peppers fame is another maestro. but my personal favorite is mark tremonti of creed and alter bridge. i'm not saying anyone is better than the other because they play different genres. they play different styles and are masters in their own styles.
