Why is it a depressing thought that the universe will fade out in the end?

According to astronomers many billions of years from now the universe, still expanding, will just fade out. After many collisions of both stars and galaxies matter will be too dispersed and heavy to light up again.
Many people find this a depressing thought although we won´t be there to witness it. Why is the thought depressing?

Hi, vetiver!
It's not depressing at all when you think in terms of all the wonders of which mankind is capable. We could stop that progression, perhaps. Or maybe we could relocate all of our people to do it better on another planet. Surely, by then, these things will be relatively easy! We humans are a very resilient bunch!

yeah, there has been a great evolution since we were primitive people to what we are just now. Mostly in a technology aspect the progression has been very quick.

I'm not so sure the rate of advancement is changing. There are many more of us, and we build on what came before, as always. Improved communications allow us to learn of innovations as never before, certainly.

Yes it is depressing to think but the most answer to this
problem is the "Prayers" whatever God you believe in order
if it will happen we can be save. Might be happen it is in His
hands when He commands everything to have it . I know all the things
on earth will be perished but the faith to our Creator will bring
us to peace and not depressing.

I think is very good to have faith in something, the aunt of my mother believes in God, since they have some bad experiences and some losses, and since then, she is better, she has much more courage to fight for life.

It's a depressing thought because of a basic human attachment to what there IS right now. If you think about it more deeply, it's a very philosophical thing. You know how people often don't regret the mistakes they did in the past, why? Because it brought them to where they are now.
And you know how when you're ideal and you look around you, you see a line of ants marching. And you ask yourself, what if there were no ants in the world and the world never felt its existence become nothing evolved into ants - isn't that such a depressing thing? Aren't we happier because there IS, because there ARE, because WE exist and because everything else EXISTS?
Thanks for the response on my discussion :)

Have you ever noticed that the more knowledge man acquires that the story seems to change?? Quit worrying!! The story will be lots different in a few billion years. After all, the world isn't really flat like they thought onceIS IT???? Seems flat to me!!!

The people who find this idea depressing aren't putting their trust in God. It's up to Him what happens with our lives and with the universe, because He created all of it. A lot of this news about the expansion of the universe is junk science, as I've read in Bible references that the world will never end, God will renovate the earth eventually, after satan gets thrown into the pit of hell, but the earth won't be destroyed.

I think so also, the bible is not a scientific book, and some things are metaphorical.

The universe would not just fade out, but it would actually recreate itself into a new universe. For example, the universe is going to expands, and then it is going to shrink to its big bang size, which was just a point that was infinitely dense. This is just an infinitely long cycle that is going to continue on for ever.

It is depressing because we humans all strive to live for a long years even though it is impossible for us to survive that long. We though that we can but actually it's all on our mind and of course our emotions.
