Greetings from Pretty mermaid in China. I'm a graduate, and will go to the US for Master degree in next Janurary. I like singing, dancing, reading, watching movies, cooking, thinking and solving problems for others. What's your hobby?
If we have something in common, please add me as a friend, because I haven't found out how to add new friends yet. oops.
By the way, since I'm going to the US, I would like to know more about American culture and customs.
Let's get familiar with each other, I'm sure you will find me interesting.

No matter which country one live in, s/he will never learn everything if s/he just stay there. People need to travel for gaining different experiences and knowledge. And that is the meaning of life.

Thank you, Lilaclady. A friend of mine went to Australia earlier in this year and said the climate is really good there. I hope we can get along well here.

Australia has many different climates at the same time just depends where you are and they can be extreme ...hot can be very hot and cold can be very cold they say Melbourne here has four seasons in one day sometimes..

Hello pretty mermaid. Welcome to myLot as a newbie. We are from the same country, so I am sure that we share the same culture and language as well. I am from the east part of China, working in a nice, but small town, one-hour ride to Hangzhou City, where the beautiful West Lake is located.
I wish your study in America to be a wonderful experience for you. Happy myLotting, friend.

I already added you. You can easily see that on the Friends tab and Mylot alerts you of new friends and then you can add. Nice to hear about the things you like to do. Although I may not be able to relate about American culture since I am Asian just like you are but living also in another country which is also Asian.
So anyway, welcome to Mylot and hope you find this site interesting and just be aware of the sites' rules so you won't get into trouble when in terms of being deducted. You can have a lot of good friends here as well as the bad ones so be careful also.
Mylot is a place where you can learn a lot of great things. Aside from making friends here , you will also earn some dough which is the best. Happy Mylotting!

Funny, almost everyone I know from overseas wants to go to the USA.
I'm from the US and I will be headed to Asia very soon. Although I really love China, it's a bit hard for me to get around because I don't speak Mandarin.
I think you will find American culture interesting. But it depends on where you go. Since you are going to graduate school, I think you'll find that fun. Americans, at least those in grad school tend to be very individualistic, competitive, but sometimes lazy.
Asian students from abroad, especially those in the sciences tend to do quite well, even if their language skills are not so strong. I've noticed that they tend to work very hard at their studies.
The trick to success in grad school I think is to work hard but to pick up some of the American individualistic and competitive nature which is recognized in research institutions as desirable characteristics.
Good luck.

Your point is right. Because for years, America appears in foreign people's head as a dreaming country. If you live in China, you will want to go US,too. I'm not saying that my motherland is bad, but as a matter of fact, American education leaves Chinese far behind, including many fields. But I would not deny, there are people who want to go there for material lives.
By the way, I'm a hard working student, too. I got scholarship every year.

I can see that you are very kind and passionate. I used to be a introvert girl, but after I majored English, got familiar with American culture, I become more open-minded, and always want to speak my ideas out, and that kind of feeling is really great!
