Purchasing a Video card

I'm in the market of purchasing my second video card and I'm hoping somone here can give me tips on which way to go. There is such an array of video cards out there these days and it's so hard to figure anything out you just have a bit knowledge about these kinds of hardware. So I decided to ask for anyone to please give me some advices. I'm not a gamer by the way. Thanks.
