Pole for fitness as an Olympic sport, good or bad idea?

I have been a pole dancer off and on for years. I retired from working in gentlemen's clubs almost two years ago. However after I gained some weight sitting around on my behind working on my degree with the Uof Phoenix online, I took it back up again. I love it! Ple dancing for fitness is a great workout, it sculpts and mshapes your body to perfection,it doesn't require a bunch of special equipment, nor does it take up a lot of space. There are studios all over the world that teach pole for fitness. Which really is a totally different thing from pole dancing in a club for money. The fitness, lifts, and tricks are tantamount and difficult.
The Olympic committee is considering including pole fitness in the 2012 Olympics which are to be held in London. I like the idea, having been through both sides of the issue, I can really see the differences, pole dancing for fitness involves combinations and moves with high levels of difficulty, there is little or no floor work, and most gyration is incidental rather than a larger component of a set which it is in strip clubs. I am teaching a friend of mine who wants, to learn, worked in clubs for a couple of years, but broke her back and has been in pain ever since. She is getting quite a bit of benefit above and beyond the expectations of her physicians so I think that she should continue. She has also brought both her 12 year old and 14 year old daughters over here to take lessons too. They are very enthusiastic and both are fast learners so I don't mind teaching them at all. Even my daughter who is going to be 20 years old soon told me that she would like to learn pole for fitness a couple of years ago, when she found out that I was teaching classes at a Bally's total fitness.
I hagve however run into disbelief and resistance to the idea as well as disapproval of me teaching teanagers to dance. They also don't have internet access and thus they think that I am making up the Olympic thing. However you can go to any search engine and type in "pole dancing in the olympics" or another related search string and you will find that what I am saying is true. The only detractors I have spoken with have been men, and a group of nasty mean feminists with Phd's and narrow little minds. They cannot seem to divide the two pole for club and pole for fitness. They also do not believe that it will ever be a sport and they refer to pole for fitness as stripping.
We got the requisite number of on and offline signatures to enter the sport for consideration but I would like to know what you think of it as an Olympic sport?

If you really want to try it, I say give it a go. I have learned over the years by watching people when I worked in clubs I was fairly good at pole tricks, but I had a set of tricks that I did and that was it, I rearely tried anything risky where I might fall in front of customers. One thing about pole dancing is as you improve and improvise you will fall that is a given. You just get back up, dust yourself off and try it again until you get it. There are both home and professional poles that you can buy online. Most of them come with a DVD that will help you get started. You'll need to make sure that it is a pole that is either static or that spins but has a unibody construction with no springs in it. Also make sure that you get a pole that has a flange on both top and bottom. Friction mounts are no good, they move when you do.
I have three playlists worth of poledancing videos and I watch them all the time on you tube so that I may learn the holds and positions. The best thing to do would be to enroll in a beginners class. If you're shy there are people who do virtual classes online. So you can buy a pole and take classes in the privacy of your own home. A formal class is better, but a lot of people don't want people to see them learning. I can tell you this though, when you start to get your tricks and spins down, you sometimes feel like you can fly! The sense of accomplishment and the sense of your innate womanhood are both so good for both your body and your self esteem. If nothing else give it a shot, you will probably love it as much as I do. Once you start doing it, take a couple pictures and send them to me, I will add them to my blog and my website. Or you can just post it uop here on this discussion.

Hey,
Anything related to fitness, iam always supporting it . Regarding pole dancing included in olympics, Iam not sure its going to happen or not. I believe pole dancing is another form of dance just like belly dancing and aerobics and others and in Olympics there is no scope of dance, isnt it?
U will be surprised to know that a major sport like Cricket is not included in olympics. If they do sanction it then its good. We will get to c some good dances and if they dont I would love to c it getting involved in dancing competetions.
Cheers,
Tutul

Pole dancing is involved in its own competitions, here is the link to the highlight reel of the USPDF finals which were held in March of this year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j52GmtDly40 and here is the link for the winner of the World Pole Dance competition which was held in Jamaica at Hedonism III in April also this year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUppVDO-fmQ the US champion is named Jeanine Butterfly and the World champ is Felix Cane who came up with a never before done move to win the competition. Mind you had she hiccuped during her program the US would have taken the title but it's all good we came in second.

fitness can help you get better healthy but you can't add it on olympic. it's not mean that every thing you like must be added in olympic. if you like sleeping, should it be added in olympic

I signed the petition that over 100,000 other people signed to submit it for consideration, but I am not the instigator nor the initiator of the idea. In fact I came in on the tail end of the whole push to get the signatures needed. Obviously you have never seen pole fitness practiced if you liken it to sleeping. I have seeded this whole discussion with links to videos of pole fitness being performed. You obviously availed yourself to none of them before typing your response. So I will include one more just for you. Go watch me do this SPORT at my youtube channel www.youtube.com/synnisin the very first thing you will see on the page is a video of me poling in my yard at home. Have a great day.

Well honestly i saw that video of her and iam amazed by her fitness level. The way she can balance her in a single pole is something praiseworthy. It needs tremendous fitness and what i can make out from the video is she is quite tall and some what heavy too. SO to do that its really needs some hard core practise.
Go girl!
Cheers,
