"Sweeney Todd"--have you seen it? What did you think about it?

I watched "Sweeney Todd" roughly three months ago, and it completely bowled me over. I loved it so much. Johnny Depp was outstanding as the title character, as were Alan Rickman (who doesn't depart much from his Snape character with his role as the judge) and Helena Bonham-Carter.
Have you seen the movie? If so, what do you think of it?

I hated this movie,it's so dark and gloomy and the cannibalism thing was so gross.
I liked some of the songs though, that song with the Baker Lady singing about catching cats for her pies was funny! "Them "omitted word" cats they're quick!"I hated the ending so melodramatic! He kills his wife coz she witnessed him killing someone, then he killed the Baker Lady because she didn't tell him his wife was alive and was that crazy old hag lady he just killed! Then he gets killed by the little boy the Baker Lady adopted because he was too busy talking/singing to his friend the knife(?)I admit it was a kill or be killed thing but still why the tragic ending?I only went to see this movie because I thought it had a happy ending...I saw the a clip in the trailer about Sweeney Todd,The Baker Lady and the boy on a picnic together.Thought that was the ending, turns out it was only the Baker Lady's daydream.
Awww I was so disappointed!

I figured that with a title of "Demon Barber of Fleet Street," plus the fact that Tim Burton was involved, it wasn't going to be a movie about a walk in the roses. lol It was still cool, but yeah, once I caught on that there was cannibalism, I was a bit freaked out myself.

lol True, true. I'm looking forward to seeing the "Alice In Wonderland" movie. That should be incredible.

I haven't seen this movie yet and I'm not sure if I ever will to be honest. I watched the previews and thought that it looked really interesting, then Johnny Depp suddenly started singing and that was it for me! I just can't get myself excited about movies with musical undertones like this, so I've pretty much avoided Sweeney Todd ever since. Who knows, one day I may take the plunge and enjoy it!

I didn't realize it was a musical either until Depp broke into song. But...I figured since the story line itself was good, I'd give it a pass (plus, Alan Rickman was in it, so there was another reason for me to look past it. LOL!).
Thanks for your response! Happy MyLotting!

I have not seen the movie. I heard of the story about the Demon Barber, and I always wondered if someone would make a movie about him, and they finally did. I guess I will have to wait until it comes on Tv on the movie channel if my husband does not say "we already seen that." That has happened more then I care to remember and the funny thing is that he was the only one who saw those movies.
Say maybe I have a Doppelganger some place.

The Doppelganger theory! Woo hoo!
I've had so many people tell me that they thought they saw me somewhere when I was actually somewhere else. I think I might have a Doppelganger as well.

I have seen it, my sister has it on dvd, so I watch it when ever I can. There aren't too many musicals that can catch my attention, but this is definitely the best I've seen, I thought it was an interesting story of a barber out for revenge, turned homicidal madman, I don't want to give too much away, but it is my opinion that it was one of Johnny Depp's best performances. Now I must admit that I am a little biased because the movie stars Johnny Depp and he is my favorite actor, and Alan Rickman is a close second, I liked Alan Rickman's work outside the Harry Potter films, mainly the films, Dogma, where he played the voice of God, Metatron, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where he was the voice of a depressed android named Marvin.

Oops...I think I did just give the big plot point away in response to the poster above you. Everyone, just pretend you don't see that. lol
Rickman was hilarious in "Dogma", I agree there. I've never seen "Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy," but a good friend of mine loves it.

I love the movie and the soundtrack. I didn't know what to expect, since I'd never seen the play, but I watched it for Johnny Depp. I was no disappointed. I think it was a great combination of humor, drama, and morbidity. I listen to the soundtrack all the time as well.
I'd never heard the story of Sweeney Todd before but I really enjoy it now. I've seen a documentary on it. Apparently it's possible that the story is based in truth and there may have been a Sweeney Todd and his barbershop. I also saw an independent film which followed the same story but was not related to the musical. It was very good as well. If you want to watch it, it's just called Sweeney Todd. It was made in 2006, for television I think, and it stars Ray Winstone.

That's morbid--there really might have been a Sweeney Todd. lol I'm glad I wasn't around in back in his day...I'd have to check all of the ingredients of everything I ate. :)
I'm going to have to check out the TV movie version of this. It sounds pretty cool.

Personally I hated this movie, too much blood and gore. The implication of cannibalism really turned me off pies unless they state what exactly is in them.
If I knew what this movie was about I would not have forked over my cash.I was fooled by the trailer depicting Mrs Loveit,Sweeney Todd and Toby together as a family.Turn out that scene never happened and it was all in her mind...
I thought this movie would be about an evil guy who becomes good.Instead it was about some crazy pycho who killed people first for vengeance then for the thrill.
Although I do like that reference to making cats into pies but "them pussie cat's quick", it was about the only part that was funny.
