I was wondering how many people here in my lot share by habit of listening to music as background while studying (or working), if you do so what kind of music do you find most suitable for the purpose?
I usually listen to ambient, chillout, classical, new age or post-rock music, i also like other genres (like metal, rock, etc) but they tend to distract me if i have to do something that needs focus.
Best artists for me are sigur ros, ennio morricone, enya, enigma, the cafe del mar series of albums, buddha bar series, etc

Hi, ra1787.
It is a good discussion. In the past i used to listen to the music as background while studying, but it was already few years back. I liked to listen the soothing music so that i would not get distracted easily.
However, nowadays, i no longer play the music as background while i am studying. I do not know why, i just found myself could not focus on my studies that much like before while the music is playing. I get distracted so easily if the music is on. So, i'd better turn it off and concentrate on my studies.
For working, i love the music is on, the music will not distract me like i am studying. I still can focus on working if the music is on. But, it must be soothing music. I do not like the metal of rock music.
Thanks for sharing. Happy mylotting and have a nice day!

Yes I do. But I prefer soft and relaxing music. I feel more focus and relax while studying my lessons. It takes out my stress while reviewing my lessons.
More power to yah! ^_^

Yes, I do listen to music while studying (when I was in unuversity) and also working. Main reason is to keeping me alert so that I wob't feel sleepy. Also, it can help me to increase my concentration by ignoring any other things that happened around me. Usually I will listen to those classical songs with a very low voise. Rock songs tends to disturb me. So I will not listen to rock song when i am working.

I like to have music on all the time. Especially when I have to work at home. I would much rather have music on than the television. I know some people have the TV on just for background noise. I also like to play tunes when on the computer. We have it on at work in part of our building but not in the other part where the customers are, the TV is on in that part.

yeah, i always have music on in the background while i am on the computer doing stuff. i used to listen to it while i had to study because of school too.
sometimes it'll distract me but i'll just turn it off if it starts to do that.
i like having it on because i feel like it makes doing whatever i'm doing easier sometimes if i have music to kind of sing along to in my head.

I've tried studying with music playing at a low volume, but I can't do it--it's still too distracting. Now if I'm working at something such as vacuuming, washing dishes, or something like that, then yeah, that's when the music is turned on. Of course, sometimes I get so busy doing karaoke that I forget what I was supposed to be working on. lol

Hi, i like listening to musics too, but during working i would prefer to have a soft or sentimental type of musics, or sometimes i will just prefer to be in silence. This is the same when i'm studying. For me, when i study i need to be focus and concentrate. Songs or musics will easily distract my attention. It is still fine if the subject i'm studying only need understanding. For those need memorizing, i need a quiet environment so that i can concentrate, not even a soft musics, haha. Whereas while i'm doing other work or doing things online, listening to musics will be quite an enjoyable thing to do, and it is relaxing and fun.

I have to listen to music while studying. I listen to whatever I have on my playlist that fits the study mood. Usually, it's a lot of Blue October, Arashi, Kiyoharu, Makeshift Romeo, classical, and Gregorian music.

My heads a little too untamed and just strides a lil wild when I try to work or study. It just keeps on getting diverted and I have a tsunami of thoughts inside. I have his problem since the first year of my college. Music here gives me some repose when I need to work or study, and it keeps my mind a little busy to think anything else and it really helps me get into my work. I generally listen to hard rock while I wrk. I tend to switch it off if I have to focus a lot. Any ways....

Hi ra1787,Back when I'm in high school I always listen to music while studying. It just that I feel more comfortable and relax, yup the lesson become more easier to understand and remember too.
But rule in my office is not as friendly as it should. No music and silence is a daily dull working environment I've to deal with each and every day...
Boy, I miss my high school era... Those day: Phill collins, celine dion, whitney houston, air supply, and too much great musician have giving me the best, enjoyable moments .
Now I don't even know today music chart...

yes i do!i prefer very gentle slow music though!no heavy metal and noisy music!i do so especially at night...it works for me..because i hate to stay up at night all by myself..when everyone at home is busy snoring away...sort of makes me feel lonely..so everytime i have to stay up and study or work..i just put on my fav. songs..they keep me company:)
