Hubby and I invited my parents to dinner at our place tonight and we had a good ole time!! My nephew was with them and will be for a week. He's only 13 years old and such a chatter box! lol I made a whole chicken, which is hubby's specialty but he told me how he did it which is put lots of butter and Season All all over it and put it in a baking bag and inside a deep cooking dish. Cook at 350 for about 45 minutes to an hour. So I did that and made corn bread and green bean casserole. It was soooo good!! Yummy!! Now I'm not much of a meat eater, next to none, I did taste the chicken with some BBQ sauce and I liked it. It was right good! lol Mom and dad both really enjoyed their meals for dad kept saying "This is really good thanks! and mom would chime in. lol Before we ate, hubby took our nephew out for a ride on our ATV and took him through the woods where we just cleaned out and they had a good ole time!! lol Then after dinner they both jumped into the pool and were in there for about 2 hours just having a good ole time! All the while, mom and I were in the kitchen talking, she wanted to help clean up but she didn't feel good, she's had diarrhea all day long, dad had it too and still does some but is better now but mom is still sick. She's going to see her doctor tomorrow so hopefully he'll be able to help her get better. Her rib is healing but it still grabs her side often. She's so fragile and it's so obvious. So I made her sit while I cleaned up and gave her and dad the left overs. We always do that to help them out in any way that we could. But tonight, knowing that dad does all the cooking since mom went down with the stroke, she doesn't have good coordination like she used to so I thought, "What better fathers day gift to give but a night off from cooking and cleaning!" So that's what we did for dad today. I told him "Happy Daddy Day!" mom laughed and repeated it and laughed some more. LOL I love making them happy! I really do!!

Hi gabs! My parents did have a wonderful time. Dad didn't have to cook for a change. Mom did all the cooking before she had a stroke and now she can't do it anymore because she lost her coordination. She cooked for most of 53 years and now can't do it at all so dad does it. It has to be hard on him because he wasn't used to it but he had to take over or go hungry so giving him a night off was right nice for him. Mom had a good time because she loves that recipe for the chicken. It's hubby's specialty and she just loves it but she wasn't feeling so good so she could just barely enjoy it. Both mom and dad were sick, dad was the worst of the two at first and now he's better although not up to par yet but better but mom is still sick with diarrhea and is weak from it. I gave her some gatorade in hopes it'll help replenish what she's lost and regain some of her strength. But all in all, mom had a wonderful time watching her grandson with my hubby on the ATV and then later after dinner, swim in the pool. She loves her kids and grand kids very much, dad does too but the tv is more important to him than watching kids have fun. We know he loves us but dad is dad, you know? lol

Awwwww you're so kind to say that!! I do try although I'm far from being perfect, I do try to be a good daughter to them. Hubby is a good guy too and I'm forever grateful that I have him. I try to be Jo, I really do. I wish I could erase the bad memories especially from my mom's mind about my "sordid" past but I can't. It happened and happened for a reason that she didn't think to find out the whys but dogged me left and right. Even explaining the whys, she understood at first but then she still continued to dog me as if I never told her. But then again, when she fell off that horse before I was born and hit the tail gate of a car and slid the whole length of it under the car, she wasn't expected to live but she made it but it messed her memory up quite a bit. But then again, if she can remember my past "deeds" then she should remember my explanation! I don't know, selective memory? I honestly don't know. Then we got on great terms the night before I got married the first time and that lasted a while, something like 10 to 15 years then she went right back to her old self again and just dogged me left and right. This last time she did so, I gave her an ultimatum through dad and that's when she changed. Now I can only guess from what all we've done for her and dad, she's come to realize what kind of daughter she actually has and is trying to make things right but as much as I love her, I can never truly trust her like I'd love to. I'll always love her and I did NOT mean to hurt her in my childhood days but she didn't ask and I didn't tell so it created such a mess between us but I can let go, why can't she? To be honest, I don't think it's patience that I have with her but fear. I've always feared her and I guess I always will. I do want her to be proud of me and I hope she is, I think she is..... And you do have that statement right! It IS hard when it's not good!! Oh my goodness!! YES! It is hard!! I just hope and pray that it continues on like it has and not change like it had before but my guard is up.

They did have such a good time and after seeing mom today, she's doing a lot better, thank God! She had finally received the clothes that I had bought for her and she's thrilled over that but didn't expect so much. LOL She needed clothes something awful and I finally had the chance to get her some so she's good for a while as far as that goes. I also trimmed her nails for her and spent some time just chit chatting about this and that and the next thing. lol Fathers day was great and today was great!!

Oh, Cats, I'm so glad that you had a wonderful time with your parents! What an excellent Father's Day present, too! That's a day to cherish forever! That chicken sounds yummy! Using a cooking bag is the only way I can do a roast well. Our oven seems to get hotter than it says and I tend to overcook roasts. My husband loves them because, to him, the blacker the better. He's weird. Always asking for EXTRA well-done whenever we go to a restaurant. I miss my dad. I also miss my step-father, who treated me as his daughter from day one, and I was 29 years old when he married my mother! I didn't get to spend many Father's Days with my real father with him being so sick and dying when I was 19, but I have some great memories of the ones I had with my step-father. I know you were in Heaven with the day going so well. You've had more than your share of worries over your parents for some time now so I say it's about time you had a really GREAT day!

Sounds like you need a oven thermometer. Walmart has them for I had to get one for an old oven when we were in Texas. It works like a charm! But more than that, sounds like you need a new oven! Knowing your situation, I know that'll take time before that happens. At least you have some fond memories of your dad before he passed. That's what counts sweetie! Keep them close to your heart! As for your step dad, that's wonderful he accepted you like he did!! You're one lucky gal, no doubt! Not many can accept previous relationships which is so stupid and selfish as hell! As for my parents, I do try although I'm far from being perfect, I do try to be a good daughter to them. Hubby is a good guy too and I'm forever grateful that I have him. They did have a wonderful time. Dad didn't have to cook for a change. Mom did all the cooking before she had a stroke and now she can't do it anymore because she lost her coordination. UGH! I baked my Father a home made Lemon Pie Saturday and took it over to the farm; then Sunday I grilled pork steaks and we had a big huge dinner and lots and lots of leftover's for him and myself for a few days no cooking for either of us which is great when its so hot;

Oh it's so hot here too dream. I have to stay inside to keep out of the sun because of having lupus so it really sucks having to stay inside til the sun goes behind the trees. I can't even get into my own pool until then!! I hate to cook inside but I have to in order to eat. I try to eat a lot of cold things so I don't have to cook or make something huge to last a few days. lol Dad loved it that he didn't have to cook for a change. I gave them all the left overs too so they wouldn't have to cook tonight and have enough to cover my nephew too. lol Mom did all the cooking before she had a stroke and now she can't do it anymore because she lost her coordination. She cooked for most of 53 years and now can't do it at all so dad does it. It has to be hard on him because he wasn't used to it but he had to take over or go hungry so giving him a night off was right nice for him.
