These two are the most commonly use backup devices. Flashdisk has lesser capacity but cheaper while external harddisk can have as big as 2 Terabites, but of course it's more costly. What do you prefer? Although I have both, if I will have to choose, I prefer external harddisk because I can save almost anything to it because of it's huge capacity.

Conveniently, flash drive is easy to carry and you can have it anywhere. It can save less than the capacity of the external hard disk, but it is affordable and can also save. In my own view whichever i can save data or anything i want to save i will choose the one i can afford, and i prefer cheap than expensive first. I will only buy those expensive if i have enough money to buy and that is quality one because expensive sometimes mean quality.

Yes, if budget is not enough, then have no choice but to go with flashdrive. But if you can afford the cost of an external harddisk, then it's really advisable to go for it. In buying flashdrive or external harddisk, the quality or brand is not that important to me, what I choose is the one which has the best looking packaging and appearance. So I don't go for the most expensive ones, but the best looking. Happy myLotting!

I did say that quality or brand is not that important to me in buying, but only in flashdrive or external harddisk. The reason is I have already used a different flashdrives and several external harddisks, and didn't encounter any problem. That's why I didn't really go for the leading brands, I'm picking the one which looks great and unique, because it's just the same with the leading brands. This is only my opinion.

The packaging or outside appearance may fool someone and by looking at you can say it is good quality. Someone may admire you for having good appearance. Not bad if you choose that, important here is that you can be able to save your files. Its prize that i am after. I am not thinking of quality first, that is the second thought if i have money to buy expensive but have large memory, yes you are right, if we have money to buy external hard disk, we should by.

i have seen external harddisk in cdr-king. but i don't know how to use. how much is it usually costs now. i am planning to buy actually. but are the thing do you usually save on those external hard disk. cause i don't save much files cause my computer is just P4 and with 40 GB hard disk and i think 120 or something RAM. anyways, i want to add more harddisk on my computer the internal one but since i saw the external, i get more interested . but can you tell how to hook it up on our computer. does it mean that we can hook it up only when we need and unplug it anytime we want to. i am planning to save pictures and videos i copied online from you tube actually.

It will run but don't expect it to be fast. Since your computer is slow, the reading and transferring of files to your external harddisk is definitely slow too. 128mb of ram is like a turtle speed, you can add or replace it with at least 1gb of ram, so that your computer will run fast. You will surely see the difference. And you can also buy a new video card with at least 128mb for having better resolution specially in games and videos. But of course it will be better if you buy a new Desktop with at least a Dual Core or if your budget permits, then go for Core 2 Duo or if you have maximum budget, go for Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Extreme. Lol! Happy myLotting!

but with such big hard drive which i would be happy to buy or spend on, i wonder if my computer will be compatible or able to work or run fast after connecting to it. will my RAM will be able to work well fast when it is working with such big external hard disk. but i am just planning to buy a new cpu if in case it will not work well my computer.

It depends on how much data I will be carrying.... I prefer a external harddisk always...Datas are much more important to me,cost of a hard disk are not.

Yes, if you can afford the cost of an external harddisk then go for it. It's huge capacity is really the amazing one that makes us go for it. Thanks for the response. Happy myLotting!

well for me I prefer also an external harddisk but I still don't have one because of the cost issue so I have to make use of a flashdisk

Yes, external harddisk cost higher but not that much. I hope you soon get a budget for the external harddisk because it's really wiser to buy external harddisk than flashdrive due to it's capacity. But of course, flashdrive is also good to have, it's smaller and easier to carry, but it just have limited capacity. Happy myLotting!

I should go with the external hardrive because of its higher capacity than the flash drive. I think it is more durable than flash drive although it is not portable than flash drive that you can put inside the pocket

Yes, I think the capacity is the main issue here. The more the capacity the more we prefer. The external harddisk is like a laptop, the difference is just it cannot stand alone, it still need a computer to function. Having an external harddisk is like having your computer because you can save all your data in it. Flashdrive is portable but limited capacity. Thanks for the response. Happy myLotting!

yepp, external hardisk is better than flashdisk. with the big space, we can save almost everything in there. my internal hardisk even not close enough to 1 terabites.. :p

They are not really competitors since they tend to have different uses. A flash drive is designed for travel and I usually carry mine around all the time, whereas many external hard drives are designed to add storage space and I use mine to store video, programs and backups. It would not be easy to choose between then because you would lose some practicality whichever choice you made.

You have a point there, flashdrive is smaller and easier to carry than external harddisk, so many will prefer to bring the flashdrive. But in terms of cost, it will be wiser to buy the external harddisk because the price of an external harddisk can be equivalent to several flashdrives yet still has larger capacity. But if we can have both, then we can surely bring them together. Happy myLotting!

I guess it all depends on the amount of data that i will be bringing, but since i carry my bag all the time, i would choose the external harddisk. I think it the best way to manage files. I don't have to worry about having shortage of space because it's quite large enough to accommodate my files and the files i'm going to copy. Flashdrives are ok too but it's only good for limited amount of files.

Yes, I agree with all you said. Me too, I always bring a pouch bag that's why I don't have any problem carrying my external harddisk. For those people without bags, i think they will prefer the flashdrive. Thanks for your response. Happy myLotting!
