what digital camera do you recommand ? (panasonic, canon, sony?)

i am getting a gift for a friend, she is 18 years old girl. So she might want a compact, small and stylish camera. But she loves photography so it should be around 10MP. her old camera is canon PowerShot A540 and she doesn't like it much, because is big, and she wants better modes. Which brand or camera under Panasonic, canon, sony should i get for her? is AA batteries better or those camera recharge battery since she might take a lot of pictures sometimes, because i read some camera can only take about 200 in between charge. and lastly, i don't want to get a camera over 300. any recommandation? thankyou

I use Pentax for years and am very content with the results, I can only recommend this brand. Panasonic is a great brand too and I would choose it rather than canon and sony. I would also choose a DSLR camera in your case. But you always have to make the decision yourself by looking at the different features, extras in the offers. Good luck!
