Hi Neha, its a nice question. I believe olive oil and groundnut oil are the best for cooking. Coconut oil is not bad too. Soyabean oil and some other oil is not good for cooking if you are health concious. I extensively use olive oil and groundut oil too.

Just wanted to know why you think soya oil is not good for health. Everywhere I read people always say that soya oil is one of the most healthy cooking oils available.

Hi Sudipta. If you have cared to actually read my comment, I said "Soya oil is not good for cooking IF YOU ARE Health concious". In Indiamarket all soya oils are partially hydrogenated, Which makes your soya oil bad for your health. Soya Oil is high in Omega6 which reduces the benifits of Omega3. Its polyunsaturated which anyone will tell you is not good when heated.Helps you to get ugly fat in your body.

Yes, I have read your comments, that’s why I asked. So which cooking oil is good for our health? I cant afford olive oil, groundnut oil is not readily available and coconut oil is not an option. We mainly use mustard oil…what about sunflower oil?

I think perhaps it's the olive oil. I ever read an article before. It said that the Italians used olive oil to cook. Therefore, they have less possibilities to have heart attack. So the olive oil left me a good impression and I think it is the most healthy cooking oil.
I love China

Traditionally we Bengalis use mustard oil for cooking. It’s a heavy oil with a pungent aroma which goes really well with Bengali dishes.
I have heard a lot of debate about the best cooking medium…many agree that olive oil might be the best option. However, its very expensive here in India and it does not gel well with traditional Bengali style of cooking. After hearing out many experts, I think all oils are good but we must take them in moderation. Avoiding oily and fatty food is the crux here and not the medium of cooking. All natural edible oils have good nutritional values, that’s why they have been selected by our ancestors as the best for us.
Regarding myself, I usually keep both mustard oil and soy oil in my kitchen. I blend them both while cooking most items but for our typically Bengali fish, I have to use mustard oil…I need that real pungent aroma of mustard oil.

I always use olive oil but we have an abundance of it here with olive trees everywhere. It is so good that it is excellent on salads, cheese and with bread but inevitably I cook with it too as have 15 kilo tins around the house. Having so much olive oil means I never have to buy any oil so it gets used in everything even though I know it would be an indulgence to get through so much of it in other countries, here though it is the most staple commodity we have. The oil tastes even better knowing it is from your own trees.

there are many dishes I think that only olive oil can be used, but for deep frying i like peanut oil.
i really do not like using spray on oils, yuk!

as to heath protect,i vote for olive oil, HDL cholesterol, a health care cholesterol, is present on it.(source:wikipidia) generally the effects will depend on the system of the user. a good oil may be bad for some. as to price versus taste, i vote for coconut oil price is low but its good
