Are you sick of the default Mylot avatar?

You know what I mean, the picture of the white guy on a green background with an exclamation mark that new people who haven't worked out how to change it have. I've been a member here for a few years now and though lots of other things have changed this guy hasn't, he's still stood there waving smiling and apparently shouting. Does anyone else think it's about time they changed it? Maybe they could run a contest for a member to design a new one like they did with the referral banners a couple of years ago.

Hey, that's good idea. I'm sure that they would recieve many responses. It is a bit blah!

Yes it's very plain and doesn't really mean anything, you can't even tell what gender the character is meant to be or anything.

yes so it would suit everyone, but they could make an option where you check your gender when you create your profile so there's an avatar for males and another for females, then at least you'd have some clue to who you were responding to. That's quite a good idea actually...

He is kind of a blob, isn't he/it/whatever. And that green, blechhhh. But no, it is pretty innocuous and I don't really much notice. What I do notice is when my myLot friends put up new and interesting photos of their own--such as their cats or dogs, or in your case, a celebrity friend?

That's Justin Hawkins from The Band The Darkness, I don't know if they got big in America before they split up, he has new band now and I met him after one of their gigs.

I suppose so it probably wouldn't encourage people to use avatars any more or less instead of the default one.

yes it does seem strange that someone who's been posting here that much wouldn't want an avatar.

It doesn't bother me one way or the other. What would you prefer to see in its stead?

I'm not sure really just a better graphic, the existing one looks like a sign you might see on an emergency exit or something. Though what it could mean I don't know, something like "run through the door waving and shouting".

It's not that difficult there's discussions about how to change it already posted.

Well, more than being sick I am actually confused by so many people choosing the default avatar...there are many out here whom I identify by their avatars. So when too many people select the same avatar, it kind of become confusing. And for people who do so, they are losing chances of a few more responses, I think.

I know most of my friends by their avatars though I try to learn their names too in case they change them. I don't think people are choosing it it's just either people who are only here to make money and don't care about anything they don't get paid for. or people who can't work out how to do it so will post a whole discussion asking instead of just looking for one of the many hundreds of old ones.

I prefer to see the picture or image so I can easy identify the member.
Green Avatar has no personality. I do understand that some people don't know how to change the Avatar, but they always can ask for help....
Contest is a good idea, maybe they can have few options to choose from...

I'd like to see what people came up with some of the banners were really good last time.

I'd say I am! I too have been a member of mylot for some time now and seeing the default avatar got old quick. I wish mylot would come up with a better default avatar.
When I first joined mylot one of the first things I did was change the avatar. I refused to use the guy with the exclamation mark. The darn thing creeps me out! LOL
PS That's not a bad idea! Why not contact mylot and ask?

What a neat idea! He is rather tiresome. The least they could do is have the default be a male and female that would be automatically assigned based on the gender of the new member.

It's one of the only things apart from the sites logo that hasn't changed, it's about time they did something.

I guess it's not that important to some people. But I like it when people put something up either reflecting their personality or something. It makes them more recognizable. But then people change theirs and I get confused. lol

Hi nancy, I'm glad this topic was brought up, I had thought about proposing this, but was afraid that mylot would delete me for being insensitive, lol. What if the new avatar was the Hunchback of Notre Dame, then perhaps the 'newbie' might be more eager to change it, and in the meantime the rest of us would have a good laugh seeing it. Thanks

Yes it would be good to see anything other than the old one, but if it encouraged the user the to change it soon all the better.

I wouldn't mind if you only saw a few times but there really are a lot of people who have it and it makes all their discussions look the same.

that's a cool idea.maybe an animated "guy" at that.

Well, its understandable for newcomer here in mylot, but if youre here for some time, i guess its time to make some updates. And youre right, we'd get to know what the gender is.

I don't like this default Mylot avatar. I hope people use other photos to replace it. As other people can't really remember who you are if you use the default avatar. You will be like a stranger if you don't have your own stylish avatar.
I love China

I like your idea about the contest:) I think it looks silly, and lots of people use it, so you don't really know who you are talking to most of the time.
I changed mine nearly straight after I joined. Uploading a photo whether it is of yourself, a pet, or some type of hobby or place you have visited gives other mylot members a small idea of who you are. It might not show who you are in real life but it gives others a idea about a small aspect of your personality at least.
