I was using the computer, and I heard my sister scream that there was a bear. He was standing on our picnic table and looking in the window, trying to get inside. Fortunately, he ran away when we came to the window. Have you ever seen a bear up close? I hadn't until today.

As I've mentioned before, I live way out in the boondocks in Northern BC. Bears and other wildlife is quite common. On garbage days, sometimes we get 2 or 3 bears coming through the neighbourhood. A couple of weeks ago my daughter and I were in the lobby of the hospital waiting to see her doctor and we got to watch 2 moose feed on the bushes along the edge of the parking lot. It's one of the reasons that I love living here so much. Absolutely beautiful to see Mother Nature's work up close.

Hi Bd200789, That must have been an amazing site. I just came back from my sister's cabin in northern Wisconsin for a vacation One day when we went fishing at one of the many lakes there we saw a bear across the lake taking a dip and a drink. We were not that close to it but I was amazed at seeing a bear there. We also had other sitings but it wasn't until we left for home when a large bear entered my sister's yard and her and her husband we at the fire ring and picnic tables and we afraid to run into the house because that would have gotten them closer to the bear. The bear just stopped, looked at them, shook it's head and mosied along his way down their drive way.
My husband and I are in the process of buying a house and it is in the Pocono Mountain area and are hope to see bear there. I know that may sound crazy, but I am a nature lover and I love black bears. I may hope to see one at my window, but I may be very scared when it happens too.

Hi Bd200789,
Awwwww, no, I have never seen a bear in real life, only on tv, then again we don't live in the land of the bears, the only wild life I've seen around here is lots squirrels and hedgehogs.

I haven't seen a bear that closely, but I think my sister did, when she stayed at our father's log cabin for a weekend. My step-dad also came pretty close to a bear on one of our camping trips, about 15 years ago. In both cases nothing happened, and everything was OK.

Wow...that must have been both scary and amazing at the same time. I've never seen an animal like that up close...I'm not sure I'd want to but there's a little part of me that would love it.

OMG that'd be scary having it coming in the window! My parents have had a yearling or baby bear in the yard the past couple weeks - Its been into the garbage wagon. My mom and my sister are big picture taking buffs so the crazies were out taking pictures of him. The momma bear was on the other side of the hill.

I take it that it was not Yogi? I've seen a bear close but not enough for it to harm me. When I was in Boy Scouts we were in Canada canoing on one of the lakes and a black bear was on the other side of the bank clawing at some tree, I assume to sharpen his claws. We had to keep our food in trees at night so they would not get to it.

I have seen a bear about 30 ft away from me in Bern ( the capital of Switzerland)at the cages. That was pretty cool. I have never seen a bear in the wild before though it must have been scary!
