Do you hang your clothes outside your house now that it is summer time?

I wonder if some of you are still using your dryer now that it is summer time and we can make clothesline outside our house and hang our clothes after washing. That is we can also save electricity. Well, in some areas where there is no winter, am sure people are always hanging their clothes instead of using the dryer. What about you? Do you still use your dryer to dry your clothes now? or you opted to hang it under the sun? Just curious.

There's no winter here in the Philippines. We usually hang our clothes at the backyard. We use dryer when it is raining for a couple of days.

hanging clothes outside the window - I hang clothes outside the window on a bamboo pole in fine weather.
Hello Bebs. I usually hang my clothes outside in winter. In summer I seldom hang them out because I have a clothesline in my living room on campus. It dries fast in summer. But in my own apartment in the home, we hang them outside the window because we have a place for hanging them there all the year round.

In my own apartment, we have an iron frame for hanging clothes to get them dry either in the sun or in the wind. So you read it right. lol

Oh, I must make it clearer for you. I mean, outside our big living room window, we have a big iron frame with a cover for hanging clothes, so we don't have to worry about heavy rain. I guess it makes some sense to you now. hehe.

I hang my clothes outside in the balcony where there is ample sunlight.I don't have a dryer at home to dry clothes. Now it is rainy season over her so we wash clothes very rarely. In my native place i hang clothes on a string tied to the tree in the compound. My uncle who stays above my house hangs his clothes in direct sunlight on the terrace.

Oh yes, I can relate to that because I come from the country where the heat of the sun is so severe, no need of dryer in drying our clothes just hand it under the sun and it's done/

I never use dryer, don't even have one. When it is dry sunny weather I hang my clothes outside, if it's raining I hang them inside the house.

You said exactly what I was going to say! I have a clothesline outside under cover so that rain never gets on the clothes. But if it is cold and wet, they dry better inside. I would never even consider owning a clothes dryer! I am never that desperate to get clothes dry!

Well, when I was yet in my country, I never have a dryer.. but when I come to the US, it is hard not having one specially during winter. Yup,, I would love to dry my clothes outside to minimize electricity specially now that it is summer time here.

I would love to be able to hang clothes outside in the sun. It's unfortunate that most places frown on people doing that. I think that more places need to be more conducive to people saving money. It seems that many place around me like to claim that something is 'ugly' to keep us from saving money. It's frustrating when you can't grow veggies or stack wood outside your home for using in the fireplace during wintertime.

Oh!!! I would be frustrated too if I lkive in that kind of environment..Maybe the best thing for you to do is make a clothesline inside your house.. heheh so that people will not frown at you because they can't see your hangings.. and about the plants, you can use cans and put it on your back porch...

Good idea with the plants... though I don't see much point in hanging clothes inside. I actually had to do that for awhile when my dryer broke. I washed a load in the washer every nigh and hung the laundry on the backs of chairs. Every morning anything that was dried all the way got put away, if it wasn't... it just had to sit out another night. Man, those were some tough times.

Hi Bebs! Yes, we use our washing machine dryer so that clothes could dry quickly. YOu are right that it is summer time and even if we do not use dryer, clothes will dry very quickly due to heat and hot air. Your suggestion is not bad per se, however, we do some of things out of habit and you know habits die hard.

Yes, we become habitual in hanging our clothes and allow them to dry, even if we have alredy dried them in washing machine dryer. Actually, we want to show to others how many different clothes we have and we always wash our clothes.

hahah correct!! when we are use to that habit of using the dryer? we are so lazy to hang our clothes one by one. But in the country where dryer is not necessary because it's too hot all the time, their habit is also hanging their clothes piece by piece outside or some of them as what the responder here said, they hang it in the fence or on top of the plants.. LOL

Hi Bebs, I love to hang my clothes out on the line, especially my sheets and towels. They smell so fresh and clean. Not only does it save electricity, but it also helps to keep the house cooler, it is truly a win win situation. The only extra thing I do if I hang our jeans out to dry, I place them in the dryer for about 3-5 minutes to make them softer again. It seams that they dry stiffer out on the line so this is a nice and quick fix.

Hey Bebs, I put the jeans in the dryer after I hang them out. It really helps get the stiffness out of the jeans. It only take 3-5 minutes in the dryer to get them soft.

It's not summer right now, but when it is that time of the year, I definitely hang clothes out on the clothes line. It saves money on the electricity, and you can get more laundry done faster. I just need a longer clothes line so I can wash more than 2 loads at a time.

Clothes dried by sun smells good. I wish that i can do that, but impossible because there is no space outside. Our neighbors have a lots of clothes hanging and washing everyday and i can not hang my clothes outside. I usually hang it inside the house. Sometimes i use electric fan to dry it.

Yes, drying by air is not that good as dried by the sun. I have no choice to hang it inside and use electric fan sometimes. I did not see someone who put their clothes in the porch here, mostly hang beside their house window.

Oh wow!! that's interesting!! using electric fan to dry your clothes? well, I have seen some people tying their clothesline in their front porch. the hanged their clothes not under the sun but in their porch. It works too because the air would help drying it.

I never use a dryer. I'd rather wait a few days and dry my washing outside. Even in the winter, you can usually dry the washng outdoors if you pick your day. Nothing beats the clean, fresh smell of laundry dried in the fresh air, and slipping between clean sheets is wonderful.

We always hang our clothes outside to save electricity. We only use dryer if it is raining outside we don't have a choice if we want to dry our clothes fast. So the clothes would not smell like mold. The smell of the clothes is different when you let it dry it on the sun. I'm the one who do our laundry I hate when it is raining. Right now I never expected that it is going to rain so I hanged our washed clothes outside than suddenly it is raining so I need to rush outside to get our clothes immediately.

Well, over here in my country, we do not have the 4 seasons. We only have the hot sunny weather, and the "rainy" season. For me, we do not have the dryer. We usually hang our clothes out in the sun outside our house when it's sunny. If it rains, we will just hang the clothes inside the house for them to air dry. The only problem is the rainy season where it may rain all day for a few days. We often have problems of clothes not drying during the rainy season around November to around January / February.

Oh, may I just ask where you are originally from? I do agree with you. If we can, we will certainly take out our clothes to dry during the sunny weather. However, both of us are working, and if my mum-in-law did not come over to help us to take out the clothes, we can only dry them inside of our home. That's because it may be sunny in the morning when we go out, but it may then rain heavily suddenly in the afternoon. We do not want to put the clothes at a risk of being wet again, so we usually will only put the clothes out to dry during the weekends when we are home.

I would love too but my neighbour that I dont get along with steals my washing if it goes outside and we all know how expensive baby clothing is. So I have to waste needless electricity. My balcony is out the front and people can get up to it as I have had stuff stolen fromt here before so have just given up with having anything of mine outside..!!

Oh that is awful!! I understand what you are saying.,.. yes.. there are lots of people who will just pick the clothes they want in your clothesline, neighbors and passers by.. well, it happens anywhere but not in my place now becauwe we have no neighbors.. hahaha.. Maybe you just put clothesline inside your house? or maybe in the back porch if it is closed.
24 Jun 09
The clothes line is in the back and we have a garden no porch. No she does it to be spiteful. I would particully like one in my house so Ill just stick to the tumble dryer

I take most of my laundry out when its nice and dry weather. There's no point of taking it out in rain. But I never take underwear out first because my boyfriend don't want me to and second because it's kind of personal thing for me.

Well we usually use the dryer first and then hang the clothes outside because the dryer cannot completely take away the water and it takes less time to dry clothes if the dryer is used beforehand. I also totally agree that we should be more careful about saving energy and it's very good not to use dryer in summer, especially for those small-size clothing, like T-shirt.

Most of the time I use my dryer to dry my clothes. I never get back to my waher to put in fabric softner in the rinse it has a lock and I can not lift the lid. When I hang clothes outside without the softner they are not soft. I like my clothes to be soft and smell good.
