Am I the only one?

Now that it's getting warmer out I'm hearing a lot about air conditioning. I guess the majority of people have central air.
Am I the only one who doesn't have a/c?
Right now I don't even so much as have a room air conditioner. I used to... but it was old and it didn't survive the move (because I left it sitting on the porch in the snow for a few weeks!)
Who else does not have air conditioning and just deals with the heat, and places fans strategically?
What do you think when you hear people complaining how their a/c has died and they had to live a day or two in the heat? Sometimes those stories annoy me... especially the year I was pregnant in the summer (that baby turns 3 today!!). Another pregnant woman complained that her a/c died and she had to survive the weekend without it. Needless to say between being miserable, 9 months pregnant, extremely overheated, and hormonal... I was quite annoyed at her!! LOL

Where do you live, State I mean, or region.
I am in Atlanta and I have it here, when I lived in down town Chicago I did not have it the first summer, but the second I got a window unit for my bedroom, I have a hard time sleeping when I am hot.
I can understand your frustration when you are without it all the time and then someone who loses it for a day complains.

I'm in NY... not the city, central state. We get really cold winters, and rather hot summers. July and August can be in the 90's with a lot of humidity too. Yesterday was only 70 but it was ridiculously humid.
We'll work on getting a room a/c eventually, probably once the weather does get up in the 90's and doesn't get any cooler at night. But for right now I can think of dozens of other things to spend the money on.

We had a few 90 degree days a month ago, lately all we've had is rain until today it was finally sunny again, and mid-70's, but breezy. Almost perfect.

I can understand that. Maybe you will get lucky and the temperatures will not get that high this summer. We have already reached the 100 degree mark, today with the heat index it was 110. NICE...
it is the kind of heat that you are either in a pool somewhere or inside somewhere. It is miserable Plus it can be dangerous for everyone, overheating and heat strokes etc can happen so easily.
Again lets hope the heat stays away from your area for some time.

we dont have central air, but we do have a portable air conditioner plus a lot of fans. i work in air conditioning and most days when i am there i end up freezing! our summers are pretty short here in canada anyways, if i get too hot (i get headaches when i am really hot) we go to the mall or the library.

Sometimes we'll just drive around in the car with the a/c turned on in the car to cool off if we need to.

Well I happen to be the lucky one and have central ac. I am not sure how it is like to live without it because I have grown up with it all of my life. Now we dont turn ours on until it gets really hot and muggy outside which it is this week. Today at 6pm it was 85 and muggy. I dont think I would be able to live without some kind of air.

Some days I wish I had it, some days I'm happy I don't, like the days when I have to pay my power bill!

I'm with you! I do not have air conditioning, and I don't even want it. ACs are a huge drain on electricity, and I try to keep my utilities low. Plus, I tend to get cold really easily. When I lived with my grandparents, I had to wear sweaters during the summer because they had their AC on so high. I still take a sweater or jacket with me when I go shopping or out to eat, because most stores and restaurants are just too cold with the AC on. And it is annoying when people complain about how they just can't possibly survive without the air conditioning, because the human race survived without AC for thousands of years.

I actually prefer it cold, I hate the heat!! But I know I'd abuse my a/c if I had it, I'd use it way too much, so it's good that I don't have one right now. I'm enjoying my cheap electric bills this summer!

I'm in the Uk and although it does get pretty hot these days in the summer, we make do with fans. Straight out of the shower dripping to in front of the fan normally works!!

The worst was when I first moved in with hubby, he was staying in a garage guest house with no windows!! We'd go down to the lake every single day... that made the evening so much more bearable!

People are spoiled when they complain about the heat with no a/c. I grew up without A/C. My parents never had A/C in New York. They moved to Massachuettes the same thing no A/C. When I first had A/C it was in my house it was only one each in the two bedrooms. Now I live in New Mexico and have central air. To be honest though I prefer no A/C at all. I get to cold with the A/C. Has for my parents they are now in Florda with the central Air and my mom is constantly lowering the temp while my dad keeps raising it. The way to survive without A/C is to keep blinds or curtains closed during the day when sun can come in. Happy Birthday to your son. My granddaughter is 3. They are so adorable at this age. Enjoy and Good luck to you and your family!

I had central air in one place I lived before, and it did get too cold, I could never find a happy medium. I was changing the temp every couple minutes! But I did miss it when I moved out.

My husband just put in our air conditioner a small one that is a room one I guess. It has been sweltering out and he finally put it in as things were melting...We have a few coloring pages that were colored with crayons hanging up and it got so hot in my trailer(in triple digits!) that the crayons coloring melted into the page and ran..before that we just dealt with having one fan in the living room going and a small desk top fan only when I am in my computer room. The living room and kitchen are blocked off to stay cool so I waited till it cooled tonight to get on the computer since it had been so suffocatingly hot. Where I was used to the heat the air conditioner made me feel like I was freezing and I had it set on 65 and that felt way to cold so I set it on 69 and still felt chilly. I feel sorry for my parents and little sister who are dealing without fans or any way to stay cooled right now since they moved and right now have not had the electric turned on as yet. I am hoping they can get a generator soon.

Yep, I live in a trailer seems they get even hotter then houses in my opinion, I think the way they are made is what causes that..I really hope that you get a air conditioner..Have you tried freezing 1/2-1 gallon just and setting them behind the fans? I did that and it helped some.

You live in a trailer too? They're horrible in the heat!! I'm not looking forward to the really hot months here, I think i'll have to buy a small a/c then.

I don't have air conditioning either. I don't mind the heat, but the humidity has been awful here lately. That makes it seem so much hotter than what it is. I hope to put in a window unit shortly. I grew up without it but my husband is used to having it so he complains a great deal. It drives me crazy! I wear a sweater when we go out so that I don't get too cold. It seems that everywhere we go they have it on high and I freeze.

I don't have a/c as it is just not hot enough the majority of the year to justify it - plus I love the heat so much I like being hot and when it is cold I am miserable!! LOL

I have air conditioning, but I'd rather not use it. Air conditioning could give you a cool room temperature, but it also means some kind of contamination. Admit or not, the side effect is very serious. If you could live without it, forget it.

I live in a tropical country, air-conditioner is a MUST to us because the weather in the spring and summer is very humid and hot, if we don't turn on the air conditioner, it makes us very uncomfortable, and sweaty especially at night, we can't sleep without the air condionter, we will wake up from sweating and sticky in the bed.

Im Such a panzy when it comes to heat, i hate it. ive had a/c in my house for as long as i remember. being able to recluse myself in my room when its 100+ degrees outside. i dont like gettin all sweaty just by sitting there cuz its so hot. But taking a cold shower on hot days is very refreshing though!

You mean that you didn't slap her face?
As you know I live in a hot country and when I obught my little house ther were 2 ac's but teh very old fashioned klind that eat up elelctricity. I honestly cannot afford to use them at all. We have large ceiling fands that are placed over the beds and these are so fgood - plus my windows are left open at night too. My windows are grilled and they have coolers atttached to them so no one can see in and they are safe. Coolers are like a larrice work structure over the window that lets in the air and gives privacy. I would love to have an ac in my bedroom but this is out of the question.

nope, you're not. i don't have a/c too in my room, but my sisters and my parents does. fortunately, i have a very well air circulation in my room, plus a fan lol. that's enough for me dealing with this hot weather in Surabaya. trust me, my city has a very-very hot weather and it's not about season, but it is always hot. we'll be lucky a bit when it's winter season, at least the rain can help us cooling the air and the land.
o yeahhhh i did hear lots of complains from people arround me when they couldn't live a day or two without the a/c ufff..i mean, can't they suffer a bit ??? there are so many people out there are more suffer than them, dealing with the very hot and cold weather, without having a roof upon them..
oh-oh, have your baby born ??? =D =D =D

i,here in shenzhen, have a/c in the office in daytime.
but when i go back to the garden district where i live,i have no a/c,only use the fan. in fact, before u go to bed, sitting before the fan,and slow down ur blood flow, then u'll feel not so hot.
i think a/c is not good to health, and dont like to use it if i can .

I'm not sure where you live but I live in Las Vegas and it gets really hot here during the summers. AC is a must or you would just suffer in this heat. I don't know what I would do without the AC in my home, I actually have 2 AC units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and during the summer it is automatically set on 78. But its really only on from May until about Mid September. The electric bill does become outrageous though during the summer while the AC is running 24/7 for 5 months. I remember last July when it hit 110 every day by electric bill was over $600, which is half of my mortgage, can you say "OUCH!" but thank god this year the electric company decided to lower their rates because of the economy. I give you props for living without AC because I definitely can't do it, and while pregnant? thats really amazing. I would be screaming if I have to live through hot weather. I guess I could just always sit in the shower to stay cool but I would prefer having my AC. I consider it an essential to my home and everyday needs.
