How important is sleep to you?

As a young person I usually didn't get that much although I could if I wanted. Sometimes I slept for 12-15 hours on a week-end. Other times I could sleep that in one day, others I never got any on a week-end. With a mood disorder I seem to either get too much or way too little. Not a very normal nights sleep for very long. Have you gotten to a point in your life that are happy with the amount you are getting whether it is enough or not? If you get woke up before you have gotten enough is your entire day set? Is there a happy medium that you like to stay in? If so, what is it?

I have observed this phenonmens of "oversleep" as well: more hours of sleep not always mean a better recreation, indeed. And many times I woke up after 5 hours of sleep quite refreshed. Seems the average of sleeping hours during the past days need to be taken into consideration.

Sleep is pretty complex. Sometimes you can get along with very little but not for long. Your body does alot of things while you sleep.

I also have a mood disorder, and the lack of sleep really affect it.. Sleeping at night lately has been an issue.. I have a hard time falling asleep, I can and do just lay in bed for an hour or two.. Just trying to get my body to relax enough to fall asleep.. I guess it is because of the fact right now, where I live, its like a little community within a community.. And right now I am the only one home.. I am use to living with other people.. I have adjusted to just living around people I know but they are on vacation.. I did not think that it would effect me but it has.. So I find myself getting the best sleep during my son's nap time..
But I was told by someone that it is not the amount of sleep that is the most important as the type of sleep you have.. You could sleep 10 hours but not that heavy, waking up to the smallest noises.. Were as a few hours of sleep where you are out, and nothing wakes you up until your body tells you or an alarm, to get up.. Yes sleep is very important, it effects the next day.. Its kind of like running on half empty during the day... Having to push yourself to get everyday tasks done.. And that does not include the irritability that you have, or lack of concentration.. Sooner or later I will be able to sleep at night with ease, its just getting over somethings, which may or may not ever go away completely.. Only time will tell..

I will be getting a multi-vitamin when I get to the store next.. But I do take vitamin C, B12, B6, Ginseng, fish oil, garlic oil, and a couple others, just do not remember them right off hand.. I can tell the days that I do not take them, I feel a whole lot worst.. so I am trying to get into a routine.. I am not suppose to take all of the vitamins at once... But I will get there

I think that I normally need about 8 hours plus, I can get by on 7 but I feel really off if I only sleep that much. At a weekend when I do not have to get up I usually sleep for about 9 hours. I just wish I was one of those people that could make do on 5 or 6 hours it would be great!

CE-
I don't think I've slept longer then maybe 5 hours since having children! My oldest is now 17. I don't even sleep in anymore when I do have the chance. I'm up generally around 7am, sometimes earlier if the children are up early. And even when they aren't up I seem to always be up!
I can't say if I don't get enough that it ruins my day. It may take me a few to fully wake up, but once I'm up I'm good to go.

I think if I get 4-5 hours of good sleep I am good to go. About seven is perfect but I very rarely get it. Thanks.

sleep is very important and i think an extended sleep on weekends is althe more important. a proper sleep at night makes one refreshed for the day. most of the time when i don't get proper sleep at night i get up with irritation in the morning. this feeling in the morning is not good for the whole day.

I like to sleep at least 8 hours or more each night but sometimes its hard with noises from t.v, music and people talking. I tried ear plugs, but sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

I know how that is. With a teenager in the house they can get real noisy. I tried earplugs but then I didn't hear the alarm go off the next morning. LOL

Sleep is very important to me. I work late at night so I spend most of the morning and afternoon sleeping so that I can work in the night...

I used to work at night and grew to hate it. They kept promising me the day shift and it took forever. I enjoy the night time but not to work. I guess everyone is different. Even if I get a nap before I work I was still always tired about half way through. Ugh!

Sleep is very important for me. Although as nurse, I have different shifts and so my sleeping pattern always changes every month which is unhealthy for an individual. If I can have my way, I will always make sure I have at least 8 hours of sleep everyday to rejuvinate my body. Having enough sleep really makes a difference in my think, my mood and total disposition.

Sleep should be very important to all individuals. Doesn't seem to be to alot of youngsters. Thanks.

sleeping is important because its like you are charging yourself to the next day so that's why it is important, most of all for the workaholic person hehe ^_^

I absolutely LOVE sleep! I cannot get enough of it. I could sleep forever if I wanted too, thus, sleep is really important to me. If I really don't get enough, I get really cranky and really -lazy-. I will not do anything, even if it's something i love to do. I don't know if it's a disorder, or anything, or it's just me. But I love sleep. :)

Yes, a good 4 would be nice I expect. I think they do too. I am hearing 6-7 is the healthy amount. Thanks.

I am needing that full seven or more hours of sleep per night. On the other hand, if I sleep in too much, I hurt all over. It has to be right around seven and a half hours. I always was that way as a young person. Sure, occasionally I could stay up really late but mostly I was in bed just after ten and up around 5:30.

I am a night person and am usually up pretty late. I tend to enjoy the morning too so I try to change my hours from time to time. I need about 7 hours of sleep as well.

VERY important. I work at night and it's completely different when you get a good night sleep than a 13hour daytime sleep. Ive been working at night for long now and can't get used to it completely. I still feel sleepy and if I only get 6-7 hours of sleep during the day, I feel like i'm going to be sleepy for the rest of the week.

Hey celtic! I have terrible Insomnia which I have had since
I was a child! It took me a long time to remember that I have
always had a problem falling asleep even when I was a little
kid, but it is true! I never get the "right" amount of sleep
ever! I have trouble falling asleep and then staying asleep
so I don't even know what "normal" is! I always seem to be
tired no matter how much or how little sleep I get. I have
been in therapy and given medication to try to counter-act
this, but so far to no avail! It is very frustrating to say
the least, but I will continue to work on it until I have an
answer!

Hi Opal! I same problems and the one I really hate is that I have such a problem staying asleep. I leave the tv on to help lull me off but then I think it wakes me up later. Then I turn it down and still get woke up. I hate it. I will continue to work on it also. Sleep is an interesting thing. I have learned alot.

For me sleep is very important and I need atleast a 5 hour sound sleep per day. If I do not get a proper sleep, it will affect my entire routine and i will not be able to concentrate on my work efficiently. Hence i will definitely make sure that I sleep for atleast 5 hours a day. I never sleep for more than 8 hours too.

Ok wow you sleep like 12-15 hours in the weekend? That's I rarely see:) Usually I sleep at 12 pmish and wake up at 6.20 am, so usually only sleep for 6 hours. It is really not enough for me because in the office I usually very sleepy in the morning and now it has taken its toll where my body is so tired and just not energized to do anything. In the weekend I usually sleep for 8-9 hours, I just cannot sleep for 12 hours because I just used to my sleeping cycle. I think I just need to adjust my sleeping hours, but it's so hard to do so.

When I was young I did. When I am depressed I sleep alot. When I am doing okay I usually sleep about 7 hours. It is hard to adjust sleeping hours. I think people needto be sure they take a multi-vitamin too. Thank.
