Do you think that (email) ‘notifications’ are essential and important?

Mylot sends notifications to us whenever our friends start a new discussion, whenever we receive comments on our responses, whenever we receive counter-comments on our comments, whenever our response is rated as the ‘best response’, whenever our request for ‘add’ is accepted by any member or when we receive a friend’s request for add. I keep receiving notifications in my email box and it help me a lot to check my discussions and discussions responded by me. I keep notification ‘on’ for my friends and when they start any discussion I just check that out and if I can contribute something, I go for responding. My question to you is – “do you keep notification ‘on’ for all your friends? Or you just check the mylot home page for discussions started by your friends? I have been told by some friends that they do not depend on ‘notifications’ and they just check a member’s profile, who is in their list of friends, to see if s/he has started any new discussion. Also, the second part of my question is - those of you who are in my friends’ list, do you keep notification ‘on’ for my discussions or you just randomly post your responses to my discussions either by checking my profile or by checking out the captions ‘discussions started by my friends’. Your valuable thoughts on the same will be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for your likely contributions.

I couldn't do without the notifications.I do keep the notifications on for all my friends.i couldn't check every friend to see if they started a new post.I love that I get an email when someond comments on a post. This way a great conversation can start. In face one of my friends and I have been discussing the same post for about a year.

Hi sara! It is really good to know that you make full use of notifications and you keep it on for all your friends. I feel that sometimes all 'notifications' are not received by us. However, if these are received it helps in convenient mylotting. I also feel that if we do not receive notifications, we will be deprived of many new events/posts. Thanks for sharing and enriching the post.

Well, as a rule I find that they are helpful. Not essential, of course, because not everyone has to enjoy receiving all those notifications and people can certainly function on mylot without them. But quite helpful. It is nice to be notified of comments to our discussions or comments because that way we can comment back and have some kind of conversation going on. It is nice to know when we have a best response or when we receive friends request or any of the other notifications we get. Nice yes, important for me, yeah, in a way. Essential? not really, but very helpful to me. I am sure that there are myloters out there that don't use them, and don't really welcome them, and they are still doing good in here. But in my case I like them. As for my friends notification on or off.... well, if I had all my friends notifications on I would have no space for all the emails I would be receiving, nor would I have time to respond to all. I basically have the notifications on for friends that I regularly enjoy their posts and tend to discuss subjects that interest me or that I like to discuss. Only. As for my other friends every once in a while I take one or two pages at a time and go trough their posts to answer their discussions. If I find that one of them is posting more discussion on subjects that I enjoy then I turn on their notification. But having the notifications on, in all mylot friends would not work. It would be impossible to respond to all or even read all posts and I would accomplish nothing in here, instead spending all the time sorting out and reading all notifications.

Hi Arkaf! It is really good to know that you make full use of notifications and you keep it on for all your friends, hopefully including ME. I also feel that sometimes some important 'notifications' are not received and we do not come to know about developments taking place with regard to our dicussions. Notifications help in convenient mylotting. I agree with you that keeping notification for all our friends could be difficult, as we cannot respond to all our friends. You are right we should not completely rely on notifications, we should also see other channels. I also feel that if we do not receive notifications, we will be deprived of many new events/posts. Thanks for sharing and enriching the post.

Yes my friend, your notification is on. I love your discussions :) And the only reason I do not respond to all is because I haven't been here that much for the past few months. Like you I find the notifications important and serving a purpose. Of course, as I said, to other people they might not be important at all, we are all different :)

HI Email notification will help us to track the records in mylot easily upto a certain extent. I am checking my mail first to know about the activities in mylot so I think it is good to get notifications in our mail box. But we can’t rely more on notifications because sometimes mylot fails to give notifications. I had many surprises with mylot. I am not getting notification when one of my friend commenting back on her discussions. Actually I was disappointed not to get any response and I just check the discussion again and surprised to see the reply there for me. Not only once most of the time I am not getting notification on reply of this particular friend and the funny thing is if somebody else replied/commented for me then I am getting notification on that but not getting the discussion starter’s response. To be very honest I am not turned on all of my friend’s notification. I am checking the person’s activity and accordingly I am selecting the button but I think 95% friend’s notifications are turned on. I think I have to spend some more time and watch the activities but right now I am busy so can’t work now. In nutshell notifications will help us a lot.

Hello Dpk...I find the notifications about responses to my discussions very helpful. Once I get here, I then check under discussions "friends started" so that I can respond to those. A good question :) Karen

Good day, dpk262006! Well, my email notifications are all checked but I rarely read emails because I am always online here. I only check out on my email inbox when there are no new discussions on my interests. I just read the comments and reply on it. Sometimes, I just look on my profile to check out on discussions I had replied to and look on the last response then I put a comment on the response of others. Anyway, the email notification is important when a user had been inactive here for a long time to keep the user updated just by checking the emails. Happy mylotting and have a nice day!

I have all my friends notifications turned on. It's really handy for me to have these things right in my in-box instead of having to go and search them out on the site itsself. With the amount of friends that I have, it's nice to see in my in-box who I have responded to, and who I have not responded to. When I am done with one, I delete it and move onto the next one.

It is very helpful. I am responding now from my email notification. If i go to discussions my friends start, I can catch only recent discussions and some are lost. With my limited time, if I am not able to respond to my email notification, than I go directly to mylot and see discussions my friends start... The problem is that I have email notification ON for some people by it is not working....

Hi DEEPAK! I normally get some notifications but all the notifications that I get do not guarantee my response. It depends on the topic. I normally look at the discusisons started by friends and then start responding to them irrespective of whether I get notifications or not. After I read your discussion topic I flipped through the list of friends and checked and found out that yours was in the 'off' category. I immediately switched it to the 'on' category.Only then I realised that many were in the 'off' category through no conscious effort of mine. It had just slipped my mnd that I need to turn on the notifications. Now I have done it. Thanks for reminding. It makes it easier.

To your questin whether they are essential I feel that it makes it easier to quickly identify the discussion and go to it straightaway even wehn you flip through the discussions started by friends because you know there is one in the list that is to your liking and waiting to be answered and .They are essential, moreso when there is a huge number and it consumes time to go from page after page in just making the choice of the preferred topics.

Hi Kalav! It is really heartening to know that my discussion prompted you to look at your notification and interestingly mine was as 'off' position. Thanks God, now you have turned it 'on'. (It (my discussion) was in a reminder to those friends, who have not notification 'on' for my discussions. and I succeeded in my efforts, as far as you are concerned. I feel that sometimes some 'notifications' are not received. Notifications do help in convenient mylotting. I also feel that if we do not receive notifications, we will be deprived of many new events/posts. Thanks for turning notification 'on' for me and also for sharing and enriching the post.

Yes it is always better to have email notifications, specially for people who are not coming to mylot regularly. This way they can remain updated with what is happening with the discussions they started and the discussions they have responded and they can even reply to them. But if there will be no notification, there will be less chance that we will reply to our good friends and this can hurt someone or make friends feel as if we are ignoring them.......so I am very much in favour of email notifications.

Hello pk262006, I keep all the notifications on and as long as I have something to say, I will respond. To respond to my friends' discussions is a must for me but as I said, it depends whether I have something to say or not *smiles* For me, it is easier to keep track of all discussions started by my friends through my e-mail notifications. The bad part is just that I can't check the photo added to the discussions. It is very seldom for me to go the myLot home page or any other parts of myLot unless I feel bored and decided to look for 'something new' here *smiles* For the second part of your question - Since all the notifications are on, so do yours and here I am, busy responding to your discussion

Hello dpk262006, Oh, it happened to me twice! I didn't get all the notifications due to myLot glitch (I guess...) So, I was waiting for a notification to pop up and it took like forever One time, some of the discussions went straight to my spam folder where I never bother to check and always delete without checking! Gone all the discussions and only realized that when I accidentally went to the discussion page on myLot!

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji, Your discussion is worth appriciable on its face. Since six months or so, I have only been following 'Alert' messages from myLot and even hardly I started any discussions of my own. I can make out a clear boundry line here. To reply your first question, I always follow myLot Notifications. I am always putting 'Tab' of all my friends 'ON'. But at the same time, I also change my root by picking up here and there, without going into detail if discussion was started by my friend. Even today, I am not able to clear back lot. I am running behind my schedue and still 175 Notifications are available in my mail-box. May god bless You and have a great time.

For me no. I think it is not essential anymore since I always visit the site rather than my email. So, I don't need email notifications at all. Anyway, we still have an option on having an email notifications or not all. Me, I have set it to no since it is bombarding my emails and I often read it. Sometimes, I knew it already because I already visit the site before I have checked my email.

I do not keep the notifications for all my friends Deepak, only a few with whom i interact often. And the funny thing is that of these i get notifications only from a few. So what i do then is go to the profile's and then check for the discussions or if i come across it in the friends discussion tac, i respond to them.

I have all my friends' notification ON since the time i have joined but guess what, I haven't received any notification whatsoever! This is an eternal glitch with my page, I think they treat me specially! I have to manually search for my friends' discussions and everything but then it has gotten into a habit now. I am comfortable in going to the page and do the explorations. I can understand you and how things get easier for you people. But for someone who doesn't know the taste of sugar how will he differentiate between the the sugar free cake with a incing sugar cake!!

I don’t know if that is correct but it would explain why I am regularly missing some. I do receive notifications for all your discussions Deepak.
