Well..EXCUSE ME! Rant Coming Along Here

How insulting! Excuse me! Sheesh! Many of my friends here know that I tend to write, uh, well, rather long-winded discussion topics. Hey, I'm a writer. I often write replies to my friend's discussions that are equally long-winded at times. Well I thought this WAS a discussion forum and one could express themselves as much as they want. In fact, to the left of the screen when one is writing up a discussion in the comment section it clearly says Please be as descriptive as possible. The more details you provide, the more likely you are to receive responses to your discussion. Okay shoot me, hang me, drive nails in my eyeballs for being very "descriptive". Excuse me! Anyway, a newbie chimed into one of my discussions, saying my discussion was to long to read...and looking at his replies to other discussions he barely writes a full sentence. What a putz Like hey yahooo...if my discussion topic is too long to read why even bother to answer at all with only a few words..just to make a friggin penny? Just skip by it then if it bothers you too much. Have any of you gotten a stupid reply that your discussion topic was too long to read?

I used not to like reading long posts as my eyes would become watery if I stare too long on the screen. I learn to play with my eyes by flickering my eyes after reading each para of a long post. By and by my eyes got used to this training and now am able to concentrate reading without hurting the eyeballs. I appreciate long discussions with good contents and it give me immersed satisfaction to read a piece of good write-up. Your posts are very catchy and that draws me to read your writes line by line. Complaints are always forthcoming for some people who are not really appreciative of good posts. Recently one of my responders have this to say when he could not catch up with the length of my discussion. Oh man you write a lot......i started reading what you wanted to say but then i lost you after about two lines when i saw how much you have written. I was stunned as the post was only 2 paragraphs and he is already feeling dizzy. What can I say, some people are just not into reading long posts. But what does a discussion means if it is only one or two lines. Can't extract much from a short posts. It is something like a 'hit and run' situation and only cater for people who are in for quick bucks.

The real amusing thing is that the discussion in question wasn't even my really long ones and yet he thought it was long---Since long discussions seems to bother some people including him and your responder, yes, they should stick to the "Coke or Pepsi?" ones...LOL

Zandi, maybe the problem is this is the internet/texting generation, meaning they must have all they write or read fit onto a 1 & 1-half inch screen, & can only speak in abbrevatese? "U no wat I mn? LOL! TTFN, bff!" Maggiepie

What an IDIOT! We are only limited to so many words, I think, but it is ALOT OF WORDS. And yes, mylot prefers that we write longer. Although some users just skip our long discussions preferring to only respond to the short ones. But that is their business. I agree, if they didn't bother to read it all, why bother posting in the disucussion then? Just to tell you off? THE NERVE! I mean, if it is something against the guidelines, sure, some of us will tell them about their error, but you have made no error. Who is it? Let me at em!

I think we are actually allowed something like a max of 1,500 words...and yes, in some of my more long-winded discussions have gotten to near that--I emailed you who the person is

sounds like ciao syndrome. they b*tched if it's too long..too short..too detailed.. and then write barely anything just like you said. i had somebody yell at me once cause i didn't give away the ending on a movie. what would be the point of viewing it then?it's a review, not a spoiler. my all time favorite response though had to be "check ure grammer"... ah..ok.right on that.

Heheeee I've had a couple of those. One just wrote 'I can't respond cos u r 2 long' and I even managed to comment back saying 'ok, I'll think of u next time I start one '. You, we, can't please everyone on here and neither should we try. Whatever we do it will always get up someone's nose but will that stop us? No eh! Oh what's a 'putz'? That's new to me.

I'm wondering if I'll ever catch up here...I haven't been away from MyLot for a day like you mysdianait, but with my lovely wrist problem it's taking me forever to write back response. I just LOVE the repliers who do text talk...maybe since I'm an old fart (LOL) I don't understand it too well Uh..a putz is a Jewish/Yiddish term...my great-grandmother grew up and lived in the Brooklyn area of NYC where there were a lot of Jewish and Italian neighborhoods...she picked up on a lot of Yiddish sayings...a putz basically means jerk, but does have other meanings a bit more derogatory...mmm...do know a few choice Italian words too... Have a long email to you but will get to it tomorrow..a lot of things to explain

Dont worry about people like that they will get paid initially but it will be taken off of them when mylot realises. We are supposed to write in as much detail as we can and yes you are right its does state and I quote be as descriptive as possible. If it didnt then I would understand. i think maybe this person is just replying to as much as possible to make as much money as quick as possible but he/she will get seen as scamming I do beleive so dont get yoursef worked up about it. We do get silly poeple on here!!

I also just LOVE the newbies who do one word responses...NOT--the person did a VERY inappropriate response to a dear friend's discussion so this person won't last long unless he wises up on how things are done here

I totally understand where you're coming from. I don't even think you make a penny for a few words. Just forget him if he's going to be that way. On my old account, I recently made a new one because I canceled my old account, I would get replies like that as well. I don't understand why someone would read a "long discussion" and only say "It's too long".

I think I put the idiot in his place. All that the lame duck in question has been doing is posting very short one-liners that probably won't generate much, if any at all. He even some nerve to post in someone's discussion that he did not know - a violation of the mylot guidelines. At the moment, for those who want to go get 'em, his response #11 at: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2047402.aspx?p=2 Not sure how long it will last, but if you don't see #11 as a one-liner, then it was deleted.

I would have LOVED to have seen the looks on people's faces when they actually see that, depending on how long it lasts. I'm sure that you're in agreement that some people just need to be pretty much wiped off of MyLot.

It has been know to happen quite often that people on mylot answer the question by only reading the title. I had complaints about posting whole articles as a discussion. They prefer me to post a link to the article so that they don't have to read it. lol All that said... I have noticed that your discussions have become more about ranting than anything else. And it is becoming quite repetitive. This was your question... Have any of you gotten a stupid reply that your discussion topic was too long to read? The rest is your own answer to that question. And you should have put the question before your answer to it.

i often worry that my replies + discussions are too short.. As for long discussions - i luv reading them.. i may not respond to all of them, but i do find some of those discussions interesting to read.. and like you say - the choice is yours - if you think the discussion is too long to spend time reading, and you dont think you have anything to comment - just skip it.. no rule saying that you have to read and respond to every discussion.. it is really a matter of personal preference, i think.. some like simple short discussions, others prefer the detailed, long ones.. and me.. i like whatever..

I know what you mean. If they can't read, then why are they bothering to participate in a discussion group? Thinking they can make some quick cash? Right. People are lazy, mentally. There is no real interest in doing anything involving thought.

I find that when I write long discussions I don't get very many responses. Kind of odd when ti does say to be as descriptive as possible. This person, you've described, well you've said he's a newbie so pay him no mind. Write as long as you want, your reaping the benefits, and the person will soon find out that your long winded responses are actually beneficial to the site. The more you write, the easier it is for a person to understand you, atleast that's the way I feel.

I haven't gotten any replies like that, yet, which is very surprising since I tend to be very long-winded, too. I don't understand some people. If something is hard for me to read, I put it aside and forget about it. That newbie apparently has a lot to learn about courtesy; also about myLot! If all they answer with is a few words, they won't get paid anything. I doubt if they'd even make a penny! Some of my responses have been extra long and, I believe, the most I've ever made from any response was maybe 10 cents. So, I doubt they'll even make a penny with only a few words. I do know that it would irritate me if someone responded like that. I've had people say something like "I can't help you" or "I don't understand", something very short and not worthy of my response, nor any pay from myLot, in my opinion. But, I've read some other discussions here about the same thing, so it's not just you who've received stupid responses like that. They're usually newbies and most likely won't be around myLot for long.

Hey relax! Other's opinions shouldn't bother you that much. And if they don't like how you right, it's their problem, not yours. I haven't experienced being corrected or receiving a cooment for how short or long I wrote. However, I don't mind reading long discussions... because you're right, longer ones tends to be more informative and can give more details to the discussion. You should go on writing the way you want then... and hey, smile! Happy mylotting...

I understand. I don't mean being hypocrite by trying to please other mylotters by all means... but you are right that respect is also needed here. Sure, we all can give out comments, corrections, etc. Then again, respect is greatly needed to last here. With regards to long discussions. I believe this should not big issue to others.

ROFL I know what you mean. Sometimes we can't win them all. Look on the bright side though that person is only one in hundreds right? So if for every 100 responses you've gotten you only get 1 that can go right down the toilet then you're doing great. :) Keep your head up and keep on writing. Either that person wanted their penny really bad so they had to post something, or they really felt the need to tell you they thought your post was too long. Either way brush it off it's no big deal, because I've seen some of your discussions and responses and you've got quite the fan club. Happy MyLotting and remember tomorrow is a new day :)

My discussion topics are never long. I am not good in writing. It would take me one hour to write a topic (my typing speed and skills) The simple solution is not to respond to discussion if someone has problem with reading. I think they are here to make a quick post and run. I remember rubbish discussions in my beginning of Mylot......not mentioned one word discussion topic. Sad to say, even now when you go to new discussions section you can see rather posts not discussions...many new members start 10-20 short discussions per day with no response... I got one respond lately that I don't even understand. The respond says: "no yar" I am lost in translation..... I enjoy reading your discussions, keep going pye, you are not responsible for those who can not read and write...and more you are not responsible for translation. HUGS

If it's the same guy that prompted Pye to start this discussion as response #11 in: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2047402.aspx?p=2 Yup - that "No yar" line seems vaguely familiar, like he probably used that on someone else. Personally, I don't think it translate to anything other than just gibberish noises. It was probably a lame attempt to get his post count up & just trying to get money.

I would pity the person who cannot read a long discussion, for their's is the loss of words. They probably couldn't read a book if their life depended on it, and I'm sorry for their loss. And, if they are here to make money, they probably aren't.

Pye- A few times actually, and I just keep writing my replies in the same fashion. I figure if they can't read perhaps that is better because then it saves room for those who can read and those who will put in something decent that we can chat about. It's funny because I recall a rant started awhile back about posts being too long and after going back and forth it came out that it was just a rant, but that the original poster did indeed like thoughtful responses. All I can say is that those who write so little will learn on their own that this isn't what Mylot is about. It's not about shout outs. It's about friendships, deep spirited conversations, and depth. Namaste-Anora PS-Hope you're feeling better
