Well not really, but listen to this! A nearby community recently voted against a $2 per household annual increase in taxes. The money was to be used to increase the pay of the EMT's that worked in the county. What do they make? About $22,000.
Let's Break that down!
They Work 24 Hour Shifts (as do I) which means an average of 60 Hours per week!
They make about $423 a week! Would you risk your life and put up with the stress that they do for $423 a week...WHILE working more than 60 hours a week?
I couldn't believe the public voted against it!

I think that the people who work in these fields and related ones are really underpaid, as well as police officers and school teachers. The doctors are significantly overpaid, and work about a 1/3 of the hours that EMT's work. At least teacher's get the summer off and police officers get paid by the hour. I had no idea that the EMT's were salary. They must really love their jobs.

EMT's technically get paid per hour, but it is normally around minimum wage. Then the built in overtime gets them up a little...but it's all about 24,000 a year. We definitely don't do it for the money!
I've always thought that teachers are not too severely underpaid. My sister is a teacher and complained that she only made 35,000 a year. If she worked 12 months out of the year, it would be equivalent to a 44,000 a year job. Not that bad of a salary. I still couldn't do it though!
