Building and Selling Computers?

United States

So recently I've been thinking of building and selling computers (time to put my Computer Information Systems minor to work!). I thought it over and today decided that I'm going to give building a computer and selling it a shot. And even if not, I do need a desk top so no matter what happens, it's a win-win situation. I'm also going to offer something where I'll upgrade stuff for people as well. Not just if I build one but just in general. At any rate, has anyone ever built and sold a computer before? Just wondering.

I have bought a custom computer, make sure you get a diagnostic , so your parts work in it.

Building and selling computers.......... Nope, never did it before but my hubby can build them. He thought it was too much competition to be out trying to sell his own. So why not just work under somebody that's already doing it? No need to reinvent the wheel. Know what I'm saying? Don't get me wrong, I think that it's a great idea that you have the initiative to want to step out there on your own but be prepared for a lot of brain busting hard work, that's all I'm saying. Wishing you all the best, happy mylot!

Where are you planning to sell the computers you've built? Would you sell them online like say on eBay or locally? Online I think you may have a hard time getting noticed because there are so many computers for sale, so you might have better luck locally. I think it's a good idea, but you'll probably have to be very patient and persistent to make any money with it.

Presumably you intend to start the business from home. It is a good idea, but you will have to work hard to get customers/clients. People may not know your skills and capabilities, so you will have to convince them. Be realistic on the ups and downs of a business. Do not try to cut corners, unless your clients specifically ask for the cheapest setup. Avoid selling on credit, unless you have a large stash of money to roll on. All the best

I did that before, i used to work for a Taiwanese computer distributor maker as a assembly worker and then a technician, it is not easy to build a p/c from ground up, you need to get the right devices , connect them the right right, configure the mother board if certain adapters don't workout well, able to go in the C-Mode set up to enter manually the necessary information for the CPU, If you are fortunate, everything go well, if not, it will take a lot of headaches to troubleshoot the problem area. It is quite a challenging task in my opinion and fulfilling one too if you see the final product work out flawlessly in the end. Go ahead give yourself a try, it is a good lesson to learn in computer stuff .

most of Computer seller not so hard to build one. Theu only assembley the part of it and then sell out. Such as easy to sell. as marketer we do not working something that can make us hard to sell. make all easiet as it can, as long as we can get $$$. But if you consider to build and have an skill for that, it's better to decrease the cost of production u will get higher profit. Succes for all of us.

well that would be a lot of work but it is a good business but you will need a large capital as for your upgrade offers be sure to keep it and its a good idea you shall be up against big company competitors so you might have difficulties getting customers but if you get lucky then it really is a worth while business If you are in a city it would be difficult because of the competition but if you are in the countryside it shall be hard to find customers so its just the luck of the draw make sure you offer services like no other to convince customers to buy computer from you and also I recommend you study marketing and commerce to widen your expertise to help you in your business Good Luck ^_^
