I have been trying for a few months to write an inspiration book. It is hard to find time to work on it when you work full time and have 2 children when you aren't working. Tonight I just got my 2 year old to bed and after a very stressful night, I just want to relax for a bit, so here I am on MyLot. But anyway, I'm just wondering if any of you have ever wrote a book and had it published. If so, do you have any good advice for me? Thanks!

I am glad you brought up this subject. Just this morning I was pitching a book idea to my husband. I have never gotten anything published before, and I need to do a lot of research on how to go about it. The responses to your post have given me some ideas. Good luck with your book. I think that with all the bad stuff happening in today's world an inspiration book is a good idea.

I just wrote and published my first book, "Intensive Faith Therapy". It was very easy to publish and did not cost alot. I have sold about 100 copies to family and friends and I am now learning how to "market" it on the internet. There are several companies that will print your book and they do not require a minimum order. I recommend Createspace.com. It is owned by Amazon and is designed to help the "self-publisher". Once you print it through Createspace, it will automatically go to Amazon. I also used LightningSource.com. They are owned by one of the major distributor (can't think of the name right now). Their process is very similar. Books published on LightningSource are available through Barnes and Noble.com and others. I started with Lulu.com but I found Createspace and Lightning Source to be cheaper.

I have written little stories, but never had them published and I think it is great that you are writing a book on inspiration. I hope that you find the time to finish it and that you will let us know the title so that we can check it out. We all need inspiration to be inspired to do things. I wish you much luck on your book and hope you have the time and ability to finish it soon.

Hi Tamarafireheart..........Just wondering, how much did the publishers pay you for your poem. I write poems myself and I would love to be able to make some money from it. Can you send the name of the publishers to me please? Any other additional information that you could send my way would be very helpful. Once I sent a poem of mine to a publisher and they would up making me pay for the book which my poem was published in. While I enjoyed seeing my poem in print I don't think I will go that route again. Thank you very much for feedback............. Happy mylot!

Given the internet has cut out the middleman, have you considered self-publishing? I haven't but it's an idea to explore.

I remember those busy days and nights with kids. Looking back, those were fun days with our kids although challenging at times.
No, I have not written a book but one day would like to. Did post a small article online about finding my biological parents. Would need much more information about where to start and how to find a good publisher. I did try to find a ghost writer but it didn't work out since the author couldn't help with true life stories. One myLot member was very helpful with her suggestions since she does write. Below is the article I attempted to write quite some time ago.

Get an agent. It's almost essential for first-time writers to have an agent to get published. Once you're established, you can pretty much write your own ticket without an agent but, initially, it's almost impossible to get published without the help of a good agent.
Good luck to you! I know all about that 'writing bug'. When it hits, it hits hard! I hope to see your book published one day!

It is in my plans to write a book. I write articles and I have had several published. I usually approach editors with an idea or the article itself and wait. A couple have even paid me! It is important to research the publication and familiarising yourself with the writers guidelines before pitching an idea.
I have not attempted a book as yet; I would imagine the process may be similar.
Try obtaining a copy of a publication called 'Writers Market' it lists editors and publishers.
Best of luck with it!

I've been reading some replies and to get a whole book published is not that easy as stated. Most publishers won't read "unsolicated" material. That just means material that is not represented. You need representation, a literary agent or no one will read your work. Most publishers will even say so, "unsolicated" material gets unread and most will be honest and say it goes in the trash. You can even good literary agents, but they're like regular agents. As in, if you're a model say you'll have a different agent than an actor. Each LA(literary agent) has a genre, or genres, they represent. I was trying to find one, I write fiction, and it's a long process. I am still not puiblished and not represented. A legitimate LA will not charge you any money. They only money you pay is if you get published, they will take a small percent, under 10 but I forget how much, of any and all earnings.

Ever wrote a book?
Hello Singlemommy. To write a book is one of the things that I have written down on my bucket list. Have you seen that movie yet? "The bucketlist" It is really a good one. Basically it's like about 100 things you'd like to do in life before you kick the bucket. Anyhow I started writing on my book because at first I wanted to write an autobiography but I don't know if I want to go that route any more or not. As things changes just like everything in life. So anyhow, right now my life might appear to be kind of boring to a lot of people but to me it's not really all that boring. BTW, I have two kids too and so it's basically wrapped up in them. Believe me, I could write a book on the experiences and adventures that I have every day with them. Anyhow as you can probably tell from this short message that I'm somewhat of a natural writer. Sometimes my thoughts just seem to flow. If I feel a real connection with something or someone, watch out! So anyways I have contacted a few book companies and what they want to know is how far along is your manuscript? Well back about six months ago I had no idea what a manuscript even was? So I started doing a little homework on it. Would write a chapter or two of my life's adventures just about every day, then got bored with it and put it down. Anyhow, to keep this as short and as simple as I possibly can. There is a number that i got and a name of a person and I think I may have the address, that you can contact and they will give you all the information that you need concerning writing a book. They will even help you to get it published and the fees are not ridiculously high believe it or not. Anyhow I want you to pm me for it because I don't want to break none of mylot rules by sending the information right here. So be sure to pm and I will get it right to you. Thanks for taking the time to read this and good luck with your book, family and children. Happy mylot!

I'm not a good writer, and I don't have good ideas anyways to start a book. But my friend is a great writer, she has her own blog and she writes short stories. Believe me they are great, and people get back to her blog every time just to take a look at her new posts.
I already took copies from most of these stories, went to a publishing company and discussed with them to print and market a book for her. In her next birthday I will surprise her with a book full of great short stories, and her name is written there. I will surprise her with her own book.
I think as long as you have two kids, I'm sure you have nice short stories for kids. Why not write short things? It won't take time like a whole book discussing one subject only.

Not yet.
In fact,I have always been thinking of writing a book, and I had finished some chapters for a time, but finally I got bored with it.
To be honest,I don't think that my work is bad comparing with some of those pubished books,I always think it is just not good enough for myself,so ,I prefer to read more books and get more experiences before I start to write it again.

Yes, I have had a book published. My husband and I have both had books published. Mine is a cookbook of Danish recipes in English, and his are three science fiction novels. Here is a link to my book on our website, and his stuff can be found on the other pages of our site.

I havent but my brother is in the process and hes been working on it for like half a year and hes only completed like 2 chapters but if it is a good book and you get it proof-read ALOT OF TIMES and it is a good book then it will go through the publisher easily, they probably will send it back and tell you why they dont like it then u just add what they want in it and TADA its published
