Is our society really family oriented?

I am raising four children right now and I am reminded every day that having a family is not socially supported in my country. Let me explain. In decades past, companies would lay off unmarried workers first because they didn't have families to support. Things are not like that now, companies are only looking at short term profit, not the long term stability of both their consumer base and their workforce; both of whom are connected and who make that profit happen.
A recent study said that the leading indicator for couples going into poverty today is if they have children. Basically that means that if people marry and have children, their chances of falling into poverty are higher than those that either remain single and childless or married and childless.
Statistics have shown that stable families keep down crime and increase property values yet families are not able to be stable because of the lack of support from society. Having said these things, do you think our society is family oriented?
