I have notcied here on myLot lately that race has been a pretty big topic ranging in just about every interest group of some kind or to some extent! Have you noticed this trend? Everything seems to come down to some kind of comment about well, they just can't let our first Afircan American president do his job.. Or something like that. I have even noticed some people claiming racism in the youth? My question is how do you feel about race relations in today's society? Are things better than the were say 50 years ago? Do you feel that racism is a one way street, a two lane road, or a multi-lane highway? If you think things aren't better can you tell me why you feel that way? What can we do to improve things? I want everyone's opinions on the matter! So feel free to post a reply... I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say!

wow..a serious topic.i think that racism is inevitable, because every country is different habits, different beliefs, which led to confrontations and conflicts.Although inevitable, but we can put it to minimize the harm.this requires the joint efforts of human beings.I still firmly believe that people in this world is equal.

I think the problem with that, is when you are raised a certain way you tend to adopt most of the beliefs of your parents, so until parents put aside their hatred and teach their children the love they do not know, I think it will be difficult for future generations.

racism is always going to be a big part of life i think, because people love to blame things on something and i guess race is an easy target, but it definately is a multi-lane highway, every race has people in it that are racist against another. It is better than 50 years ago in the sense that people are treated more equally even if at times they feel they are not.. they are. i dont understand racism in general.. a person is a person, racism is just someones opinion, and how highly people value that particular opinion varries from country to country, and from race to race. not sure if this makes all that much sense (im tired) but thats my thoughts on the matter

No it made sense! I was thinking very similarly! I think that the only way for it to get truly better is for people, all people (and good luck with that) to start teaching their kids that the differences make us beautiful. One thing that has upset me has been constant things here in America. The comments to me that it is my fault a black persons ancestors were slaves. Or comments about Obama being black and that being why republicans don't like him! It kinda makes me laugh in one instance cause that is absurd... That is also partly why I put this here in politics. I think that its not his race that has repblicans in an uproar its his policies. So why do people make something about race? I guess its kinda like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop... The world may never know!

Yeah i totally agree. And race is such an obvious difference at first glance at someone so it is so easy to use that as an excuse to dislike someone, since people are too dense to think of a real reason.

Racism is the thing that I hate. i have seen in all countries, it exist in any form. It has taken a bad shape in recent time when recession is looming over the world. It has drove people to feel hatred to others. Its something that has witnessed racial attacks by some people towards students of other countries. Its shame.

RAcism is insanely growing! I mean, I think that everyone should be equal... There shouldnt be anything called reverse racism... I think it should just be racism. And If no one can use a derogatory term for african americans, than no one should be able to use the derogatory terms for other races and get a laugh. I think it should be equal. I dont think anyone should be able to get away with what others cannot. I think that it is a million way highway, because it takes a lot of people to start turning things around. I think a lot of people need to stop taking things so personally and stop using race as an excuse or an stumbling block. We are all human beings and we are in the same country, I think the first major step would be for people to stop filling out that race box on applications, and forms, and check other and put human... I wish everything was based on the individual, and not race, but unfortunately, that is not the case. Why? who knows exactly. But I think that either every race should be allowed to have pride in their race, and not be considered racist. I think everyone should not speak badly about a specific race or ethnicity. I think it should be equal for all, and no one should have privelages or rights that others do not have especially based on race.

yea I guess hope is all we have at this point, I mean until things are actually equal and everyone feels they are just as deserving and the same as everyone else, things will continue on this route, but hopefully, as you say things will get better for our children!

Personally I don't really notice racism as an issue unless the government is mentioning it, save for one situation and that is my lot, and a lot of it is centered around Barak Obama Seriously, whats up with that? (Like you said, mostly people who are accusing others of racism) I don't see a lot of racism, And when I was little, the little bit of racism I did know, was fear, of being not politically correct, Of using the wrong word or name/title W/E... when I was little (and still now) the difference of skin color is like the difference of hair color with one additional thing, You can be charged with harrassment or get in trouble for using the wrong words... thats my biggest issue with racism, I should be able to talk with someone of a different skin color the way I do with everyone else, without fear off getting charged with harrassment, but then, I wouldn't abuse that, others might.

Its funny, because white people are always blamed for slavery, but werent the Irish the first slaves? I mean many white people are descendents of slaves, and some african americans may have a slave and a slave owner in their genealogy, so it seems that we cannot actually determine exactly who should be angry... I think that history is here for us to learn from, and to not make the same mistakes, being blamed for something someone did a long time ago that has nothing to do with the person you are is completely ridiculous! Sorry, just my opinion! =)

I never got direct confrontation like that (I think I'm lucky :P) I just managed to screw with my own head. And its not always about race, Sometimes it just is political views or whatnot, and people just need to learn to accept that some people aren't going to agree with you, the important thing is to never seek vengeance or to become violent, or act in a way that could harm someones life. The funny thing about yours is, even if you thought it right to try and repay that dealy, what happens when the next person claims it? what if none of your family were slave owners? Now heres the fun one, what if you had one side of your family that worked hard to free slaves and lived in virtual poverty for it, and the other side owned slaves, do they cancel each other out or what?

The only racism I have personally experienced is being blamed for slavery when I was 13 and a few times more recently!Fortunetly I have black friends who have common sense and know better.. I have never had to respond to this because of them! When I was 13 my best friend who is a beautiful black girl told the girl accusing me of this that she was ridiculous and asked how she could hold someone accountable for a crime that was committed 200 years ago. Like I said I have been blamed for this and told I owe someone something for this! LoL it is almost laughable to me in that respect now but at the time I was actually quite hurt by the statement! I will be the first to admit and I have said it many times here on mylot I don't like Obama but its not because he is black like a lot of the supporters I have seen not only here but on other sites as well like to make it out to be... I don't agree with his policies! But I still don't see what his skin color has to do with anything be it good or bad!

Racism is always going to be there in our world. We as a whole are never going to be able to agree on everything. Each individual person is brought up differently than the next. Our parents instill in us from our birth what they think is right. It's up to us as adults to either continue that line of thinking or break away and find another line. But generally speaking, most adults do not. They continue to raise their own children with the ideals and goals that they were raised with themselves. Racism isn't just a one way street like the media makes it out to be. Any time a caucasion person makes anything that could be considered offensive towards any other race, that caucasion is hung up on display by the media. The public is outraged. Yet when a black person makes a derrogatory comment about a white person, nothing is said.

So very well put, Mystic. There is reverse racism going on. When a white person speaks out against another culture, they are hung out to dry. I personally am sick of it. I have had friends of many different cultures. I don't care about the damn color of their skin. They could be purple for all I care. What I care about is their actions and attitude. I am sick of people using the term "racism" to their advantage. The blacks and the Jews have had major atrocities happen to their culture in the past. These atrocities have been historically documented and due respect has been given to the tragedies. I do not believe it is right to keep going back and reliving the events when they happened so long ago. It is a new time now and not time to keep rehashing these things over and over in order to gain an advantage in society rather than building new foundations for future generations.

Not to mention, especially amoung the younger generations... Most of them have NEVER experienced the things they are complaining about! Yes wrongs were done but it is a new day and its time to move on. I firmly believe we should remember our past or we doom ourselves to relive it but there is a difference in remembering and harboring. Remembering means you acknowledge something bad happend and learn from it and continue you. Habroring to me means you are holding a grudge because something bad happend and expect everyone to give you a free ride because this bad thing happend X number of years ago! But it is not just black vs whites anymore.. americans hate this group or that group because misguided individuals did something wrong! and I am not gonna just single out Americans a lot of people have some hatred that is pointless really now. Iraelies and Muslims for one.. Where does the hatred and violence get? Its gets heartache and more hatred and violence!

hi yes racism is still going strong a nd nobody seems to care about it. I do care and wish we could all put a stop to it. Yes I voted for Obama and let the poor man alone to do his job. Too much crap is spread that is so untrue. Even 'here on mylot. why do I feel that way? Because people are making a big issue out of Obama not being a Wasp. Sorry folks but a lot of us Americans voted him in and that must say something for a lot of my fellow Americans. We can not all be idiots or fools like some Republicans like to say and think.

Obviously things have gotten much better than 50 years ago when certain races had to use seperate bathrooms and sit at the back of the bus. I think the fact that we have an African American president is a testimony to how much things have changed. There will always be those that are racist unfortunately and always those who will play the race card. I don't think it will ever completely be gone, but I do think that things have improved a great deal. We still need more improvement, but I believe we are getting there.

Hey, Well to tell you the truth, I don't really mind about anyone's race. It doesn't really matter where you come from, or what you look like. What matters is who you are inside, as a person, your actual character. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Race will always be an issue with all groups, blacks hate whites, whites hate blacks, mexicans hate blacks, ect., ect., but until our politicians and media stop using it for political gains and power we will never get anywhere. I feel in america today anyone (minus the now socialist policies) has a chance at the american dream, with that said though no one in my opinion should have a free ride based on race, it should be talent alone.

Exactly, when we discussed race in school I remember being hated because I said color should have no bearing on whether a person gets a job or not! My point was this if a black man is more qualified for say open heart surgery than a white man. I want the more qualified doctor performing the surgery! I think that Dr. King's words were misinterpreted to mean things they were never meant to mean! But what do I know I am just a white girl from the south! LoL
