An Option Forcing Mylotters To Type Longer Discussions And Responses.

I just installed a feature on one of my blogs that forces those commenting to have a minimum of text before the comment will be accepted. This may cause some to just leave and that's fine as I am looking for comments that add to the discussion at hand, not just a two word response. It's great.
What are your feeling toward Mylot adding a feature that would stop people from leaving a one or two word response that doesn't add to your discussion or earnings?

I think that that would be a great idea. I'm sure it would help mylot a great deal too because there is no telling how many short responses slip through and get a few cents, even meager, that's still money that could go to us who try to make our responses longer. It might force a lot of people off this site though, and some of them may be good contributors despite their short wordings, so I guess that'd be the repercussions to it.

I am sure it would cut down on the yes and no responses people can give. :)
The plugin I just downloaded for my Wordpress blog has a minimum of 15 characters, so it's not asking for much at just 15 characters but I am sure that will stop a lot of comments from being one word answers.

I agree! to cut out the yes and no responces. I think the admin just want to have a complete idea of whats on your mind rather then just yes or no and a hidden " but" i there but just not posted. Its still good thought, that way we can really explain ourselves and give out our point of view.

I don't think its a good idea. As mylot is not only about earning money, but as i feel its a lots of interaction n ideas exchange, n also getting a know how abt the spam sites, for the people who wanna earn money online(as for this reson only i joined mylot, n now i feel good responding to the discussions that intrests me.)
Even i feel u should remove it from ur blog too...

Well maybe it could just be implemented for those that would like to have more than a smiley face or a yes or no response and the others can leave as is.
I am certainly not removing the new plugin as I don't like to leave links to those who comment with one word responses. I suppose I could continue to just delete them like I have done all along.
I do appreciate your response though. :)

You said '....stop people from leaving a one or two word response that doesn't add to your discussion or earnings'
We are paid for our own activity. We do not earn from the responses of others and if they are only one word (or even worse, a smilie) then they are often deleted. A one word response is just as irrelevant as along response which talks along the lines of 'sorry I don't know anything etc.'
If I receive a one word response I will comment on it and THEN I will earn. I always say something even pointing out that the response is worth nothing to the user who posted it. I would prefer that myLot did not implement anything impeding short responses as the users will eventually either leave or start writing more quality. You can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink and those who wish to discuss will do so with or without any gadgets. The others will leave when they see it is not worth it, in their opinion, to stay here

Hi mysdianait, by far the best and most logical response.
I hardly ever respond to a one word response but it was more about not bothering if they couldn't be bothered. Perhaps I will look at it differently from now on. Thanks.
I was curious to see how people would respond to a feature like a minimum number of characters. :)
I really do think I will like the wordpress plugin for my blog that allows me to set a minimum amount. It may back fire in my face but I think it will help in blogging comments.

Hi webman,
This case have been cleared before. Do activities mean ourself activity. Please don't expect to much in other who gave response in your discussion. This is out of your control or in other say they write what they like because it was their own activities, remember?
Diana is right,
We did not earn money from other. It's explain on the FAQs already.

I completely agree! The people that do not write adequate responses are not going to receive anything out of it. As a result, sooner or later they will go away or learn to write appropriate posts. Who are we to tell them what to do? If we mandate a certain number of words, the posts will just ramble on with little to no point!

Well that might cut down on the spam, which would be fabulous! However that would drive a lot of people away.
Thats a tricky subject.

It is a good idea, but then there are few discussion where you don't really have much to say, so what do we do in such cases, also i feel it will tend to leave more of unrelated data in your discussion, as they will just type things which are not really necessary and the message wont be that clear, so i would say, it really depends on how well it is executed, maybe for the first 100 posts or something, till the person gets a hang of what mylot is all about........and then it should be normal as it is now.......
But I don't like the idea of making it a permanent option for all the members.....

I am not positive on that one. People who often post spam, nonsense or just want to earn quick money already are cared for or to be more specific: punished for not adding something useful to discussions. Whether it be ban, post deletion or financial punishment.

Ah but it's not meant as a punishment to those that don't post more than a word or two. It should help them so that they have to put in more text and perhaps they won't get banned or deleted. It would be meant to help everyone, including Mylot admins. :)

If you require people to meet a minimum number of words, they will simply ramble on. In fact, at least with a short response there is a possibility of getting a little something out of it. I'm afraid that people would begin to write nonsense letters or jumbles at the end of their posts to increase the length!

Hi, webmann. There is such an option forcing members to type longer responses in some forums to prevent them from typing nonsense. But as for me, I see no necessity of such an option. As we all know, mylot is place where members are paid for their activity. I suppose most mylotters are here for the reason of making extra bucks to some extent, though they do enjoy communicating with others. To earn more, they'd be willing to stay active and reflect on a discussion before making any responses. Those who type just a few words won't be paid. So if they wanna make more, they have to type longer discussions and responses.
I comment on each response to my discussion however short or irrelevant it is. I consider it as a way of showing respect to others. As long as he/she took time to respond, he/she must have something to share though only a few words.
So, this is just my idea. Happy mylotting!

Hm, I'm not so sure I would do this. I don't like mandating to others what they should or shouldn't say and do. Some discussions don't really merit a long response, because then you'd just have to use "fillers" to reach the right count. I am content enough to get paid for what I do, and let others be their own monitors.
Interesting thought, though.

I think that they should have the same rule with the "copy and paste" thing - 500 posts required in order to be able to leave just a "yes" or a "no." This will keep discussions flowing and less spammy. I mean, for sure there are those discussions where a couple of words will suffice - but that's not really "interaction," is it?
At least, by the time you've reached the 500th post, they'll know that you're legit.
Same thing with the "copy and paste" - it still annoys me to no end, but it's helpful. It keeps mylot clean and spamless.

I could care less. It doesn't effect me when they leave a short response. Why even respond if you are not going to elaborate? What is the new minimum?
