How is your garden growing this year? My garden isn't doing to bad. I planted 12 tomato plants, green beans, radishes, peppers, watermelon, pumpkins and onions this year. What did you plant in your garden? Did you plant flowers this year to? I planted tons of flowers sense we just bought our house 2 months ago.

I don't have much room but I fill it as best I can. This year I have 4 tomatoes, two bell peppers, beans of four kinds, one each of spaghetti squash, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers and cantaloupe, then I have corn, onions and beets, besides a couple of stands of lettuce and one of radishes which I will continue to plant as long as the weather holds. I also have chocolate mint and ginger in pots and dill scattered here and there. Oh, and Jerusalem artichokes and rhubarb. My backyard looks like a maze because I have one huge tree that shades a lot of it so I have to dig and plant where the plants can get sunshine.

you sound like you planted a lot this year. I would like to make my garden bigger sometime. But it wont be this year to make it bigger. I think planting stuff like this saves money from being used at the store. I love rhubarb always have. I bet your yard looks nice though. I planted a lot of flowers to this year.

It sounds like more than it looks like! Many things I just have one of, and the rest is small patches. Maybe 30 feet of beans altogether, a 3 X 6 patch of beets and so on. There's just me, so it doesn't take much of any one thing.

Just for one person what you planted can help you out a great deal. If I can save some money from running to the store all the time and spending on fruit and vegetables that would be a good thing for me. I am feed 3 people in our house and we go shopping almost every 2 weeks.

I would love to have the room for a large garden like that! My yard is small and my neighbor's trees hang over into my yard shading the whole thing most of the day! I do have just a small area next to my back door where I planted 3 tomato plants, 1 green pepper plant and some green beans (pole beans), 5 of them. They climb right up a trellis I put up this year. Everything is growing very, very well! We've had lots of rain and now it's hot and seems like a hot house around here but good for growing plants, I guess. My tomato plants are as tall as I am, I think! I might pay someone to come and trim the tree branches that hang into my yard so I can have a much bigger garden next year. I'm just afraid that if the dirt is like the dirt on one side of the fence that it will be rocky and have glass in it. Plus I think there use to be a long driveway in the middle of the yard so I might hit it if I dig very deep. I guess I'd better go see about that before I have the trees trimmed and pay that expense, huh?

By the way, I water the plants on days that it doesn't rain and it's hot. I also use Miracle Grow about every other week.

Glad to hear your plants are doing good this year. I use miracle grow as well on my plants to help them out. Trees from next door neighbor's house doesn't help your plants when there is to much shade. I have always started my plants off by seeds in a hot house then planted them in the ground. some plants do like very hot areas so they can grow fast.

Sounds like you have a great garden, I plant vinca, elephant ears, begonia. I started a small vegetable garden. I only have tomatoes and cabbage. The cabbage my grandson got in school, and he gave it to me. I am hoping next spring to start early so I can plant more.

My garden this year is ok for just moving here. Its growing slow but its growing. I started all my plants from seeds then when they got tall enough I planted them in my garden. Its been raining here and kind of cold here. We need the sun back for our plants to grow.

Not as well as it could be going, but not game over...and that's all I really asked for. Had terrible trouble with rabbits this year (I don't think enough predators -- human or otherwise -- have been eating enough of them to keep their population down enough to have less trouble). Lost most of our pepper and tomato plants. I've pretty much learned my lesson there. All nightshade family, to the deck, or placed somewhere above ground level that they can't get to. Might experiment with placing them in tires and such next year.

Rabbits love eating up the garden. Did you put a fence around your garden? Most people do that to keep things out of it. Some people plant them in pots and put them on there porch. I have never done that one. But I have seen people do that and they grow pretty good.

hmmmmm good doing garden for you buddy..its very hot for us here and eagerly waiting for the drops from heaven. No plants are surviving in my place. We are exhausted by the angry sun now and almost dying for rain to come and wet us and our plants. I have seeded tomatoes and they have grown into small plants but they have not survived because of hottest summer here. Anyways good luck to your garden.

Hot weather like that wont let anything grow. I hope you get rain soon. Evey body needs rain for there crops to grow. They need sun but not to hot. Try and plant your seeds in half sun and half shade if you can. It might help them out a great deal. And when the sun goes down water your plants.

Hi Strawberrybaby, So far this year my garden is going pretty well. I have been using lettuce, parsley, spring onions and chives for several weeks. Last weekend I pulled lots of raspberries and would expect to have to pick a lot more plus redcurrants this weekend. The apple trees are laden with fruit and the gooseberries look good but my blackcurrants and damsons are very poor. I am only at the house where my garden is at weekends so I have to work hard Saturdays and Sundays. In my vegetable garden I have also, tomatoes, pumpkins, courgettes, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, turnips, parsnips, beetroot, cauliflower and broccoli. They are all growing well. I have planted a few flowers and the roses have never been so good. My balcony is full of salad fruit and vegetables and they are all going well. The first tomatoes were ripe this week. Good luck with your new garden.

sounds like your garden is taking off and producing lots of things already. You have a lot more then me planted. But I only made a small garden this year because we just moved here after we bought the place. But would like to make it bigger next year. You sound like you have some nice vegetables growing. My plants haven't produced anything yet but I am still waiting. But they look good.

I have good luck and bad luck with plants. My grandmother is the one that taught me how to garden. She had a garden half the size of a football field she grew every years. And she made it on her hands and knees planting stuff. she was always good with plants.

Sounds like you've got quite the garden this year. Unfortunately, we rent, so we couldn't really plant a garden, even though I really want to! Instead, we just bought some pots and planted some things and set them out on the porch. We got some small tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, a flower called Sweet Pea, and I don't remember the name of the last flower we've got. The only thing is, it's been so hot and humid here that I'm not sure the plants are going to be able to survive the heat. Some of them haven't even sprouted yet, so I'm not sure there's much hope for those.

We have been getting plenty of rain and sun here so far witch is making the gardens here take off really well. I have had land lords let me make a garden but not all land lords are the same either. I have always liked gardens. I have lived at places to where I couldn't plant a thing. The humid heat doesn't help plants. Try to keep them in the shade some and water them when the sun goes down it might help out.

I love roses. I wish I could have planted some this year. But I didn't get a chance to buy any. my mom loves sunflowers its he favorite flower. I planted almost 50 gladiolus this year and they are sprouting up like crazy. I want hollyhocks and bleeding hearts and the red burning bush but from just moving haven't had the money yet to get them. You have a lot of plants. Orange tree sounds good to. I love oranges. Butterflies would be lovely to watch. Thank you and have a great day.
