So now it's out, The south carolina governor who went "missing" the past week was aparently involved in an afair with a woman in Argentina. Though he has resigned his position of chair on the governors council, he is apparently not resigning as governor and also plans on attempting to reconcile with is spouse. Does anyone see this as being a death blow to his governorship? Should the governor resign over this?

Ya know I this this man is a pig. He stepped out on his children on Father's Day, unless of course they are not his children then I suppose that's fine. If he wants another woman that's his business but when I had the news on tonight they said this isn't the first time that he has left to be with his woman. They said something about a wild fire and he was missing and nowhere to be found. I would say that he should resign if his affair is more important than his children and job.

I think that is the one thing no one has mentioned. He lefted or was gone for Fathers Day!!! Could he not have picked the week before or after. It just added insult to injury for his poor boys and his wife. I think that the fact that he had/is having and affair is horrible but what has gotten people the most outraged is the way he handled it. If he wanted to go to Argentina for a "personal vacation" he could have told his staff and left the Lt. Governor in charge and been done with it. He didn't have to mention he was going there to have an affair. However, I believe it(the affair) would have come out anyway even if he did tell his staff were he was going cause a news paper in SC called The State, new about his affair cause they were given emails from the governor to his mistress. A reportor from that newspaper, who he mentioned at his press conference, waited for him at the airport and questioned him about where he was and then asked about this woman. He did want this newspaper outing him so he held a press confence and told the world.

I wasn't completely sure if they were his children or hers from another relationship/marriage. That was actually the first thing that I thought of, Father's Day.

YES he should resign, and YES his office has been tarnished by his actions. This isn't just another polititian having an afair, he left the country with no one else in charge of his state. And, this isn't the first time he has done this. I can't believe that no one is asking for him to resign, his actions put his state in danger, and all of this to be with another women. What a guy!!

Lil, you're absolutely right that "The state does not stand still or do the people who live here just because the Gov. goes on vacation" but from what I've heard on the news if there had been a disaster in your state only the governor could declare it as such unless he'd given the Lt. Governor the authority or at least could be reached. I think when you add up his hypocrisy because of the way he was one of the most vocal critics of President Clinton during the Monica scandal, the fact that he abandoned his responsibilities and the fact that he apparently took some of his trips to see his lover using taxpayer funds while trying to keep the unemployed from getting stimulus funds all together the sum is the end of his political career. Well I agree his actions are horrible and he will probly have to step down...lets not blow it out of portion. How exactly were we in danger? He was gone for a few days. Sure he left the country which was stupid but if something major would have come up we do have a Lt. Gov and other elected officials that could have handled things til he got back. The state house is out of session right now and there is really not much going on here in the state right now. The state does not stand still or do the people who live here just because the Gov. goes on vacation.

Well it certainly wasn't what I expected. Most politicians do a better job of hiding their affairs. I can't believe he felt the need to abandon his job to do this. That's what it is too, job abandonment. Many jobs would fire an employee for that. I don't know if it's enough for his constituents to ask for his resignation, but that's their call. I don't know enough about his record to know if they would forigive him or not. I do think this will end any reelection hopes he may have had.

Lately his record has been the pits to say the least. I made the comment yesterday before all this came out about his affair, that he has dug his political grave. I feel that the state will be asking for his resignation. As far as his run for president in 2012, I think he messed that up when he refused to take the stimulus money from the federal government and had to have a court order him to take it, and that was just a few weeks ago. I think he will have to go back to real estate development.

I believe that he should resign, not necessarily due to the fact that he was having an affair, but because he took direct action to lose his security detail and disappear. In this day and age it's not wise for anyone to do that but it's especially problematic when it's someone who's in a postition of responsibility like a governor of a state. You don't abandon your responsibilities like that and expect to keep your job.

Yeah he'll hang in there, he needs the money to support his habits. I love it, just like that other senator last week. The thing that really gets me is when they say " I take full responsibility for my actions" and then they fight like hell to stay in power! What a joke! tdemex

As far as the question of resigning as governor goes, I think it would depend on the fact that if his personal problems would affect his ability to do his job. I personally do not condone his behavior in the least and I feel it is a joke to expect the wife to just forgive him in an instant and for them to reconcile. Hillary did not do it and I think she was stupid for not divorcing Bill. They have no marriage now. It is just to keep their political careers in the spotlight. Once a man strays, usually he strays again. I say for the wife of the Governor to kick him to the curb!

They have four fairly young children, don't they? I say they should go to counseling and try to work it out if that's possible.

They do have 4 sons, and this must be heart breaking to them. Especially for their dad to take off over Father's Day. I have 2 boys and Sunday was a big day for them. Wanting to do everything with dad. This type of situtation is always hard on kids.

He likely will be "censored" by the Republican Party and the South Carolina Legislature and will never get reelected, let alone run for President after abandoning his State. It was his very allegiance with the "morality police" within the Republican Party and his subsequent hard stand against Clinton that forced him to make the bad choices over the past week. He never should have had to hide anything and "endanger his career" over affairs of the heart.

If it were just an affair I wouldn't see why he should resign as governor. Being an adulterous b*stard doesn't necessarily make you a bad politician, nor will it effect your political work. However, just up and leaving without telling anyone where you're going? What if something had happened to him? I don't know if he should resign or not. I don't know much about this governor, if he's a good governor or not. I do know that if his constituents don't like the disappearing act, they should know better than to re-elect him come the next election.
