Could You Spend a Month on an Airplane?

The comedian Mark Malkoff is nearing the end of an interesting experiment: spending 30 days on an AirTran Airlines plane! (well, a number of them actually). He's been flying all over the country, taking several flights a day, and at the end of the day he spends the night sleeping in whatever airplane his last flight was in. He can go on the airport tarmacs and change airplanes, but can't go into any terminals or anywhere else. Malkoff started the stunt to overcome his fear of flying, he said. He's been documenting his experiences through videos on a Web site, www.MarkonAirTran.com, and on his Twitter account, http://twitter.com/mmalkoff Could you spend 30 days on an airplane (or a series of them)? I wouldn't want to do it, no matter how much publicity or money I got.

Fortunately I've never had a problem with flying, maybe because I went on flights with my family as a kid. Though I have to say these days I'm more sensitive to hearing strange noises when I'm on a flight.

It's a stunt if you ask me. There are less expensive ways to overcome fear of flying but, good luck to him anyway. Cheers!!

Yes, it's definitely a stunt, he's done this type of project before... Malkoff previously lived in an Ikea store in the furniture section. I think this project was a way for him to address the fear of flying in a way that fit in with the kind of work he's done before. Definitely not recommended for everyone!

That's a really interesting thing to do. I really enjoy flying. I suppose if i wanted to get away from reality for a while, I might try this, if only to escape, in every sense of the world. LOL What an interesting idea. I might have to try this when I win the lottery some day.

It's a very interesting adventure. I think it would be very frustrating for me to be flying all over the country but not being ble to get out of the airplane and enjoy each city. I wouldn't mind having an unlimited airline pass to fly anywhere I wanted as often as I wanted in a certain amount of time.

I could do it as long as I could stretch out that is my only problem on the plane besides take off and landing. I think it would be a great adventure plus after 30 days I would probably not mind take off or landing anymore. LOL LOL LOL

I would get really sick of seeing the inside of an airplane after just a few days. That and not being able to shower and sleep in a real bed! (although I've been camping before, and got used to sleeping on the ground).

Hi Idlewild, Unfortunately I wouldn't make it during the first fifteen minutes, because I get awfully airsick, and used to take a prescription to ward it off - which then made me foggy headed and blurry eyed. One other thing I can't take is the smell inside of an airplane, they all smell the same, like warm chemical plastic with body odor. I hope you're not eating right now, lol. I no longer take flights (especially with all the regulations). And I couldn't be paid enough to spend 30 days on a plane. I don't know how Malkoff can take it. How does he bathe? Yuk! I know I wouldn't survive.

I think he's just been "bathing" in the airplane bathrooms, though on one day he got a "shower" when a town's fire department sprayed him with water hoses while he was standing on an airport tarmac in a bathing suit.

No! I couldn't do it! I would feel trapped inside and I would eventually go crazy! The man has nerves of steel!

yeah, it's a crazy project, he's had to try to bathe in the lavatory sink. Though on one day he got a "shower" when a town's fire department sprayed him with water hoses on an airport tarmac!
