Do you think texting will change the English language?

Or should I say: Do u think tech will change language? See, I'm not very good at it (yet). But when people use things like u, hav, 2 instead of to, etc. to make it easier to text things, the language is changing. Right now it is slang. But language is always changing. I think some of this will slip into the language. I already find myself doing it sometimes. What do you think?

I could see that being a possibility. I don't know if I necessarily think it is making them dumber, maybe just creating a whole new language. I do a lot of IMing, and I know the abbreviations, etc. are helpful there. It's just like when any subsection of the culture has their own dialect. They develop it for a reason. I think probably some things will creep into the mainstream but many will not. Already, I have heard a lot of people say OMG and LOL. Thanks for your opinion!

I tend to agree. But I just got to thinking. I wonder if in a generation or two it will take over. That's how it happens. It's already taking over some arenas. Just curious. Thanks for the comment!

Yep, that is true. LOL. I think it could also make it harder to learn proper speaking, because I know I learned to spell from reading and if you are always reading misspellings, it will get confusing. I know that I was always reading published things that were properly edited. But those "kids today" could have a problem. (heh heh, makes me feel old!)
