Best movies of the 21st century so far.

What films do you think would fit this title? I feel I've missed a lot of the good movies this century and would love to be pointed to some of the best. If I was to say a couple, I would say Bridget Jones's Diary and Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl. Actually, also, although animated I think Finding Nemo deserves to be listed under the title too. Which movies do you suggest?

I love so many films! but for best movies of the 21st century here are some I think would make the cut: Titanic, Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Mr & Mrs Smith, Dances with Wolves, The Dark Knight, The Godfather, Schindler's List, American Beauty, The Lord of the Rings: The fellowship of the ring....

I'm not sure about some of them but Titanic was out before the 21st century as it came out in the 90's. But a great film nevertheless! I have seen the Dark Knight and would agree with that but haven't seen the rest. I did see the second Lord of the Rings film however didn't really understand it as I hadn't seen the first. Thanks for the response.

Something's Gotta Give, Love Actually are my favourite romantic comedies of the ones I've seen since 2000, I also like Autumn in New York, Stranger Than Fiction, Closer and Just Like Heaven. Now horror, thriller and science fiction movies which is what I have been watch mostly, I enjoyed the Resident Evil's, Underworld, 30 Days of Night, Ghost Ship, Serenity, among others. Comedies I like Mel Brooks so I liked The Producers though not a popular choice, National Security, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle are good screwball comedies. Then the action I am Legend, I, Robot, Sin City, Grindhouse, and sequels, Mummy, LOTR, X-men etc, Bad Boys2, Rocky Balboa, among others. Infernal Affairs on which The Departed is based which is also good, Lucky number Slevin, Layer Cake, The Inside man are great cop/thief shows, and the ultimate is Ocean's Eleven. I loved Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Miyazaki's Spirited Away among others. The Downfall, The Lives of Others are amazing movies about people. As well as the ones you mentioned. I gave a few of my favourites so far, I still have a stack of DVD's to get through this summer of films that friends have recommended and movies that are getting launched at the Cinema and of course there are always movies that slip your mind that when someone mentions it you go, oh yeah how could I forget that. The only ways to see true classics is is about 10 years and see how many will be remembered then, it is fun doing this for movies from the 90's trying to remember which ones are your favourites and then comparing to the IMDB lists of which ones where most voted.

I've been thinking of listing some good movies that are worth watching these days. I missed good movies too. I felt like an idiot the other day when my colleagues was talking about a certain movie and I had no idea of it. I would like to hear some recommended lists too. I was quite impressed by Schindler's List and The Godfather. I enjoy Princess Diary too. Hitch is quite light hearted and enjoyable.

I always have friends talking about films that I've heard of but never seen and they act incredibly surprised when I tell them I haven't. I have heard of all of those you listed but haven't seen any of them! Thanks for the response and I will add them to my list of films to check out.

There have been quite a few good movies already this century but the two which really stand out for me and unintentionally feature the same actor and come from the same director are "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Seven Pounds". The Pursuit of Happyness is such an empowering story and ranks as one of my favourite movies of all time. Seven Pounds is a very clever film which manipulates your emotions but in such a way that you don't feel that the manipulation is in your face. Plus in some ways it is similar to "The Sixth Sense" as in it leads you one way only to turn it round and slap you in the face with a stunning outcome. It's also one of those films that you need to watch more than once so that the second time round you can see all the clues which lead to the outcome.

I never managed to see Seven Pounds in the end. I love Will Smith, I think he's a wonderful actor, but me and my friends read some bad reviews for Seven Pounds and decided to see others films instead when we went to the cinema as there was a lot of other treats out. It does still intrigue me though and you should never let critics reviews make your mind up I suppose so maybe I'll take a look one day. Thanks for the response.

PotC trilogy is amazing. Actually, any movie with Johnny Depp.

Yeah, I very much agree. Well, in honesty, I haven't seen many Johnny Depp films as I'm slowly watching the Tim Burton ones after being introduced to them the wrong way (I could not enjoy the Willy Wonka remake as I love the old one so much). But I certainly love Johnny in the Pirates of the Caribbean films and Finding Neverland. Perhaps others I have forgotten too.
