ok, i saw this new product being advertised in a local grocery store. here in canada we are very culturally diversive and there a number of china towns in bigger cities (i live fairly close to toronto and it has a large one), but i was wondering...scented rice? what does it smell like? what does it taste like? anyone know? it just sounds weird to me...

I have never heard of it but I wonder if it smells good and tastes good? Is it healthy for you? A mystery to me.

That's a good question I wonder if the rice has the same amount of viatmens and so forth that normal rice would have. I hope we can both find out the answer to that sunshinegirl1. Take care and happy mylotting to you.

I immediately thought about Jasmine rice myself. Jasmin rice is a nice rice to eat. I have had it and it is fairly easy to cook and it has a nice subtle flavor. If you like a flavored rice that is not too overpowering you may like Jasmin rice. But if you are not referring to jasmin rice then I am not sure what scented rice is.

I've seen Jasmine rice on the shelves of the Asian Supermarket I go to,but have never ventured to buy some to see does it smell or taste of Jasmine either before or after cooking..I have simple tastes when it comes to Chinese home cooking! and I haven't noticed it being available as an option in the Chinese takeaways I go to,either! Usually,I'll settle either for boiled or fried (egg) rice..If you decide to try it,let us know!

scented rice actually sounds neat. I have never heard of anything like that here in the states but to be honest I have not traveled a whole lot so I am sure there is somewhere that would sell it. Thanks for sharing this info and happy mylotting to you cher913.

Jasmine rice is the most common type of scented rice, at least in the United States. I agree, it sounds weird, and I was skeptical at first. The jasmine scented rice is delicious though, as it has a light and delicate flavor which is almost sweet, but definitely not overpowering. Jasmine smells floral, almost. If you've ever had jasmine tea, that light flavor is very similar to what the rice smells like. It goes well with any savory dish or on its own. At a restaurant I once ordered saffron scented rice, but it was just yellow and didn't have any remarkable flavoring to it.
