Since i was 13 years old, tea has been my 'best friends'. Easy to prepare and smells good, i can say that i am quite addicted to it, and what makes me more attached to tea rather than coffee and other drinks out there is that it promotes good health. That what i used to believe. Recently, some of my friends saw me preparing tea for them, and tells me its not good to have tea regularly as it can caused Lung Cancer. I am quite worried about this and i'm trying to find out whether this is true, but i can't find out a very solid fact(s) about this. So i turn to Mylot. In case you do have the website address that i can see (if it is true) or would you mind sharing some thoughts?

Well, I think I do have a rough idea of what your friends may be talking about. A few months ago, I did saw an article on the linkage of drinking hot tea and cancer. I had done a search a while ago, and had found the article which I had read. Here is the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7965380.stm In the article, they had said that drinking steaming hot tea (of more than 70 degree celcius) may increase the risk of oesophageal cancer. You can read through the article for more insight of the research which they had done. As for why they had said it's lung cancer, I'm not very sure... I do hope that you do let your tea cool down a bit before drinking. If you had done so, I don't think there's much to be worried about. I'm also a tea drinker too

It just happened that I had read the news a while ago. This news actually leave a big impression on me as I'm a tea drinker too. So, when I saw your topic title, it did remind me of that article. Well, it's no issue. I do believe that myLot is a big community and we should share the information if we do know about it. It's not that much a trouble to check out the information as I just have to type in the keywords and the article came out in the search. Anyway, it's good to know that you do let your tea cool down before drinking.

I have never heard of that! As a matter of fact, I've read more than once that tea is good for you and that it helps your body fight cancer and is anti aging.

I am more addicted to ice tea that you are.. so you can tell how addicted I am! I stareted at 15 adn am now 50. But I have had so many tests for so many different things in the past 5 years and blood work and many other things and I am in such perfect health, if I take vitamins it throws me all out of whack! Just a joke, but you get the point. And "Green" tea is supposed to be so healthy and a good weigh loss thing.. hasn't worked on me, but hey.. whatever. Few years ago, I did hear that tea was one of "cancer" issues.. along with coffee, smell of a new car and eggs among many other things... they all run their course... now eggs and coffee are really good for your health and since I have had many new cars in the last 30 years... and not a bit of cancer.. that one can be ignored too! They are always coming out with something new that "causes cancer" only for it to get reversed a couple months down the road. What is far more worse that tea.. is soda/pop. From your teeth to your liver...soda eats at you from the inside out!

I myself drink tea every now and then. I drink tea because most people say that it is better than coffee and they say that it has anti-oxidant which is good for the body. I haven't heard yet of any news claiming that tea causes cancer. Well, I hope not.

I don't believe everything what your friends have said, not even a bit as well. I know that lung cancer causes by excessive smoking and radon gas exposure but not to tea drinking. Even though that tea drinking have some potential drawbacks, but the drawbacks of tea drinking was greatly outnumbered by the benefits or in short that the benefits is greater than the drawbacks. So don't fret about tea drinking, and if your friends keep on telling that, tell them that show any real proof about what are they said.

Yeah, that's what i think also. It's just that the seem to be really serious about it during that time. Kind of funny though as they did not give the evidence that i want up to now. I think i'll give tea another chance, right?

Well I for one can say that I have never heard any story to even suggest that tea causes lung cancer. And if you can't find anything on the net to support the claim either, I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are they have just mixed up a story they heard, or they are simply yanking your chain.

Thanks for starting a great discussion. I was very much fond of tea about 15 years back. But I had to stop taking tea because I developed a serious health problem. But my wife still likes to takes tea and that too very hot. I would just tell her not to drink it so hot. Thanks again for bringing it to my notice.
