He chews EVERYTHING!

For quite a while I would keep my dog in his cage overnight, but then I thought how uncomfortable it would be for him. I've gotten a gate to keep him only in the kitchen, but he chews everything he can reach, and since he is a Bull Mastiff, he can reach EVERYTHING!!! LOL! I've started getting him more rawhide to chew on, but he still gets into things, like chewing the cord on my slow cooker. Eating, I believe, 5 pairs of shoes now....
It seems, he doesn't really get into things overnight, but between the time he sees me leave in the morning and the time my girlfriend wakes up..... It's like he knows I'm not home so it's time to do his thing....
Any ideas on what to do? Maybe try to not let him see me leave? I'm clueless!

Hi, I haven't got a dog but I've heard you can buy some special spray to put on items that you don't want your dog to chew. It has a bitter taste so your dog is suppose to stop enjoying chewing things they shouldn't. I don't know if it works but it might be worth giving it a try. You can get it at the bigger pet stores.
Otherwise you are probably doing the right thing by confining your dog to the kitchen and providing raw hide chews. Maybe you could try storing the slow cooker elsewhere while your out.
Giving him extra walks before you go out might take some of the boisterious energy out of him. If he's more tired he is less likely to chew while your away.
Just some ideas, maybe someone with a dog might have some better or proven ideas?

Thanks for the comment. I pretty much pick up everything before I leave, although sometimes I forget... So the outcome is my stupidity equals my dog chewing my mess, LOL.
