My ex and I, both horror fans, came to the conclusion that there are two "schools" of horror enthusiasts; those who enjoy Lovecraft and those who enjoy Poe. He didn't like Poe but loved *ahem* Lovecraft. I love Poe but don't really go in for monster stories so I have never read any Lovecraft stories. I have a collection of short stories that I picked up because I was in a bookstore and at a loss for anything I really wanted and I believe a trip to the bookstore in which one does not buy anything is a wasted trip

I don't see Poe and Lovecraft as mutually exclusive. I love both authors.

I have a large book of short stories, which is excellent.
some are fantastic, and others are just unfollowable, so he didn't always hit the mark, but I particularly enjoyed the rats in the walls, and one where a villages cats eat someone. very good.
I also have a cuddly toy Cthulhu

I was reading HP Lovecraft for a while, but I sort of put it on the back burner. I will get back to reading his works when I have the time. I know that his family was mentally unstable.

He wrote many classics. Look out for The Colour Out Of Space, Herbert West - Re-animator, The Shadow Over Innsmouth and Dagon in particular.
