When to use Is and when to use are?

OK i got asked this question and got stumped. It never crossed my mind but well.. i need help in this one. A) Peter and James IS / ARE from..... B) Peter and James from school [be]IS / ARE[/b] bullies... C) The Good and Bad of the world IS / ARE .... Thanks for your help.

If I understand correctly it must be ARE since there is more than one person or thing they are talking about. Normally when it's more than one you use ARE and when is one person or thing it's IS.

Hi. In the examples you give, the word "and" is used determine an additional person or thing. You and me, that's two persons. Peter and James are two different persons: Peter + James. The Good + the Bad are... More than one person or thing is plural. The plural of the verb "To Be": Are I am They are Hurray
