On what basis would it start? Which part of the world will start it first? Who will get attacked first? Will any country launch a nuclear weapon? How and when will it end? Will the human civilization survive through this and return to a normal life? My theory is that the third world war will probably start due to fuel and energy crisis. Most probably one of the developed countries will attack first on the Persian gulf countries (just like the Iraq war but on a more massive scale). Others will also join due to the lack of fuel in their own country. Most will refrain the use of nuclear weapon till some extremist country or a terrorist group launch a nuclear missile. I have no idea when it will end but when it does this world won't be the same. Humans will survive but it would be like someone have turned the clock back 100 years. Most of the modern tech would get destroyed and most of the land on Earth will become barren and civilizations would be totally cut from each other.
