I know abortion is legal and murder clearly stated as a crime, why is abortion allowed given that is a taking of a life?

Good topic indeed. Abortion is legal in medical terms as life comes into existence (again as per medical terms) after the birth of the child. Abortion is done before the child birth and hence they call it as legal. The same reason is being given for not stating it as a crime. A murder on the contrary relates to a person who is already born and is under "existence" and therefore is a criminal activity or a crime. There is an abortion law in several countries and it is made by taking various factors into account. This was the legal/medical aspect of it. However if you ask me personally, abortion is a kind of murder!!!

Calling abortion "murder" is difficult because it involves dealing with extreme differences of opinion in many people, often along religious lines. If you believe life starts at conception than abortion is murder. Many believe life starts at birth and therefore no problem: it is a simple decision a woman can make about something within her body. Even the latter group has trouble convincing the law that abortion is okay late in the pregnancy, hence laws regarding second and third trimester procedures. People in the first group have to also consider the implications of such a definitive stand. If abortion is murder, then is every miscarriage an involuntary manslaughter. Women who have had miscarriages feel bad enough without being tried as possible murderers. What of a woman who has to have an abortion to save her own life: Is she to be forced to prove self-defense in a court of law. Given that religion should stay out of our laws as much as possible and that the law would have a terrible time enforcing a law based on a woman's choice without some kind of future mind-reading, the current status of the law is preferable. If abortion seems like murder to you, then don't do it. The rest of us will suffer with the definition of legal murder as it now stands and take our chances with our immortal souls.

Abortion is not a crime because it is legal. Many people disagree with abortion and consider it murder but as long as it's legal it can't be considered a crime.

Congrats on starting a great discussion! This is a question which has been haunting me for a long time. In fact, this is one of the many flaws in our law. It should be declared a crime. I am not sure if it is illegal in any other country. I hope those who are responsible for making law, give it due consideration. It is a point that must be reviewed.
