Trouble with Bananas

Do you find bananas to be harder to start to peel than they used to be? I remember many years ago that just a quick snap on the end and you had the peeling started. Now it seems like most of them just bend and mash when you try that. On many of them I have to use my thumb nail to make a slit inorder to start them and on some a knife is required. I thought for awhile that it was because I like my bananas on the green side but I also have the same problem with many that are riper. Anyone else encounter this problem?

Yes, I have found exactly the same thing with bananas as you, they no longer have that instant snap when you start peeling so I invariably take a knife to the top and then peel, it is quite annoying having to do it when my child fancies a banana and can't just peel it in the same way we did when we were children.

Try MetricJester's method, it worked the one time I have had a chance to try it so far.

I've stopped snapping the top off the banana and started taking a lesson from monkeys and squeeze the bottom till it splits. Then you just start peeling. It works every time, even when they are green like I like them. I usually get one panel off and the the peel turns into a little boat. works wonders, try it on your next banana!

Thanks, I'll try to remember to try that. No monkeys in my area(New Mexico), it is desert, so I haven't been able to observe them. But, then I wouldn't expect a lot of monkeys in Canada either
