i have just come indoors and turned on my pc because it looks like rain on my end due to the lightning and thunder that have just started. initially, i planned on staying in the rain to get wet and have an early evening shower afterwards but i'm not comfortable with all those lightning flashes. so here i am logged on to mylot for a few minutes... just started doing the internet amidst the thunder and lightning.
we turned off the tv though.

well lightning would somehow destroy electric appliances specially during
strong storm and as some say they had there pc hard disk drive being destroyed by such weather condition which prevented some to stay online

Well yes.I can leave it on.
I don't have an antenna on the roof.
When you have a antenna, you are better off to turn it off.
It can be dangerous. I once saw lighting come out of a Television.
That was scary. The TV was no longer usable. The light went right
past me.
If there is an antenna on the roof or on a pole. Turn it off until the
thunder and lightning is gone. Better.

When I get bored, I start cleaning the house or taking a shower.
Normally under the shower I get ideas about what I want to get done.
When there is a storm, you can hear how far away it is. When it gets close by, turn off the computer and other electrical things. Then when you hear (and see the lighting fade)the storm moving away. You can put it back on. Should only take about 15 minutes.
Better safe than sorry.
As for me, I am still tired, but feeling better.
At 18:00 I have to go to work. Don't know for how long. We will see.
So, I am going to get my shower, and make some dinner.
Have a great weekend!

Hello bro.. our friends are right about the antenna thing being on top of the roof. If it is there, it's best to turn off everything electric. As for myself, mine's pretty alright and should I be at home and happens to be mylotting, I would just on the laptop and continue and nothing happens.
Hopefully, and up till now, I'm thankful for that. I'm particular about using the phone though because I felt the static went through at one point. So I was thinking about the laptop whether it's best to keep on the power while doing mylotting.
Here's a solution: If your battery can last long, use it during those stormy days, LOL.. I am saving up to buy a laptop that can withstand 2-3 hours of battery life. That will be cool and awesome.;)

If it was only thundering...no I would not stop... it if was thundering and lightning but off a distance, no I would not stop mylotting, but if the winds kicked up and it seemed like a bad storm was heading my way... I might then consider turning of my computer....LOL Like you I am very addicted to mylot and my kids watch tv during the rainy days and I get to be on here since I am still in the same room with them... however if the weather seemed to turn severe then yes, I would turn off my computer.
Happy mylotting!!!

I actually have turned off my pc because of a thunder storm popping up in the area. This happened a few weeks ago. I could hear it in the distance, so I powered down, and unplugged the surge protester just in case. Turned out to be a pretty wimpy storm. There was a ton of rain, and a hour later, I ended up turning the computer back on.
If it were to happen today though, I'd probably procrastinate and say "alright, 5 more posts, then I'll call it a day/night." depending on how bad the storms are this season, I may break down and get a cheap laptop(like, $60 refurbished on eBay cheap), and use it as a netbook.

Yes, as much as I love MyLot I would shut the computer off if it got too bad. If lightning strikes and blows up my computer then I wont be able to MyLot for a while anyway....whats the point in that??

If it was a severe electrical storm and I didn't have surge protectors in place then I think I would end up logging out and turning my PC off until the storm eased a little. I wouldn't be happy about it mind you, but it's probably the wisest thing to do.

Hi there!
You see if the thunder and storm is not hampering my computer and net is working fine, I would like to continue mylotting. You see it is always a great fun working here and you can enjoy participating in so many interesting discussions that you do not feel like stopping, once you are on the move.
Good Post!

hello my friend
yes you are right about that with mylot my friend
and even only in a couple fo months for being a member here
I got the addiction already like an old member those
but I think it would be wise to let the lightning pass for a couple
of minutes before we continue doing things here in mylot my friend
it would be very risky I guess since as you can read from the many experienced here
some almost got burned when there was storm on there place and had there appliances destroyed.... so as you can see basing from there experienced I rather not take the risk thanks and have a good day

same here it would all depend if I know that there is a strong storm coming then I will have to wait for the first sign of lightning then I would turn off my pc then wait for a few minutes then turn it on again...

I probably would. Thunder and lightening is kind of rare here but its due any time in the next week I think and I get really frightened.
As well as the computer itself being here, I'm right by a radiator when at my computer and you shouldn't stand/ sit near them in a storm either. So I think I would definitely turn my PC off and stop mylotting!
