The other day I happened to read somewhere that most people inspite of what they tell you choose the occupation that they desire!
Like for example: A man working in a 9 to 5 office job may say that he would like to take up a job that involves travel and rough it out in far away countries, but, in actuality he may like reading fiction or books dealing with travel subjects and other such matters that interest him. But, given a chance, he himself prefers the safety and comfort of his office job and his home ..
On analysing this above opinion, I felt that it is true to a certain extent- When one has to actually convert one's desires and fantasies into reality, we tend to think of all the practical inconveniences and difficulties that might arise, instead of looking forward to it with positive enthusiasm..
Friends what do you all have to say about this? Do you think it is true to a certain extent at least or are you one of those persons who would go all out to make your dream a reality ....

Hi Kiran!
I think it appears true to an extent that people land in those jobs in which they are comfortable working in. A man who likes a desk job will not be a fit for outdoor job, even if may think in his imagination that those who travel enjoy more. He may think that 'Drums which are farther looks sweeter'. However, the reality is different. Likw-wise those who are interested in outdoor jobs like travelling would dislike to sit on a desk and work as a stationary person.
BYW, given the choice what would you prefer a desk job or an outdoor job?

Hi Kiran!
So you would love a job, which allows you to travel and interact with others. I agree with you that Teaching is the noblest of professions and I would also love to be a teacher, given the choice. (Incidently, few days ago I was asked to take some training classes, in my office for untrained persons and I accepted the offer gladly and I had a wonderful experience, teaching/delivering lectures to office people).
I've been doing the desk job for years together and I love this kind of job (though I prefer teaching also). I won't like a job which is outdoor in nature and is requires extensive travelling. I am comfortable in my present job and I've become used to it.

Deepak, I have realised that we have very few choices in life, thats why our ancestors probably said that we all lead our lives according to our destiny or karma. It is probably the same with all things in our life including our jobs.I am glad that you enjoy what you are doing and are happy with it....

Hi deepak, what you say is right, thats why it is told that you opt for a career of your choice whether you agree or not. I would like to have a job where there is interaction and travel. But I was teaching which probably is what I actually like best and am most suited to . How about you ? what would be your choice of an ideal job and are you happy and feel comfortable with your job? I am sure you are ...Thanks and all the best

I am a person who takes whatever comes with an openmind and a positive attitude that what happens is ordained and God knows what He has to give me. At the same time my mind always keeps focusing on something that I want ;I do not dream too much but I would make the maximum effort and try and explore various avenues .This I keep doing , as though it is a part of me. But because I have some limitations I do not have too high ambitions and I would keep my goals to the level of my capacity.I have already told you how successful I was and what sort of popularity and limelight I had three years back. These stopped abruptly but I switched over to learning MSWord and this brought in some opportunity or other.Coming to think of it ,somehow I do keep doing what I would like to and even if it is not a great thing I would be content with whatever it is and wait for better days.I do tend to choose something or the other that I am comfortable with[ultimately].--meaning--even if it is a new area I would do it only if I like it.Somehow, because I dream to my capacity I do hope things would fructify.

Hi kala, than you so much for your response. You seem like one of those persons who is least demanding and are happy with whatever you get out of life- totally hassle free , I am sure you are quite happy with your life and thats great
Ultimately we all are happy when we are doing what we feel most comfortable doing. I myself am happy now with what I do online. Writing and interacting , which has given me a lot of good and like minded friends and lots of confidence..

Yes Kiran that si what my husband and son say--that I am totally hassle free but never have my feet to the ground and that I am like a bird the like of which are not found these days. I take this as a big compliment though sometimes I chide myself for my dreaminess when I get disillusioned by people--lack of awareness becomes the corollary I guess.

Hi Kiran,
When we become an adult then our thinking and decision will be strong and may reject whatever we don’t like. In other words we have the liberty/option to choose our jobs according to our convenience. In fact people are ready to keep aside their interests for their convenience especially after marriage the first preference goes to family than personal interest. If somebody offers me a better job with high salary in a far away place, I will reject that offer without thinking twice because my present job is convenient for me to look after my family and kids. So I do agree with you dear.

Hi Sreekala, Yes you are absolutely right. In some ways we become more adaptable , but at the same time we become firm about certain other things. That,s exactly what
I feel about the matter, that once we are older and are able to assert ourselves more, we tend to take up whatever we are interested in..

Interesting question. Personally I feel that once you start working for someone 9 - 5 two things happen. Firstly you become cofortable in the routine, whilst you may have to thinks hard at your job you don't have to think hard about where you are going to make your next dollar or pound etc etc. Alongside being comfortable you also cling to the safety net of knowing that at the end of the week or month you will earn a set amount. When these two things happen I wouldn't say you give up on your desires they change and quite often revolve around the security of a paid job.
On the other hand it is often the case that if you follow your dreams and seek an occupation doing something you desire, there can be a lot of uncertainty attached and amny people who go this route are risk takers.
So to answer your question, I don't believe people choose the occupation they desire. I feel that once they start working for someone 9-5 their desires are moved to the side and are replaced by the need for security.

Most people like me are taking a job for living rather than for enjoyment. Indeed, few people can really find a job that fits his interest, have good pay, and he really enjoys doing. Most of us have to sacrifice one for the others and for me, I need a stable and good payroll and my current job as both to offer so, I will put my enjoyment to a lower priority.

Hi faisai, I think everybody works out of need and there is not much enjoyment in working for one's living. I understand how you feel about your job and how important it is for you, it is the same for most of us However, You have not analysed the discussion subject in the right manner, you just see the answer the others have given, then you will understand exactly what I meant - happy mylotting and all the best
