How do you know when you have an obsession?

I don't mean like when you are just a big fan of something. But there's something in my life right now that is the center of my thoughts for most of the day. I am always waiting for something new to do with this thing, I dream about it and cry about it. It is such a big part of my life and I don't understand why. I have never felt like this about anything before. How do you know when it's an obsession or when you are just really into a particular thing
