Oi...I got through writing a post about my first constructive critique about my first fan fic on FF.net, when I saw another post about fan fiction that I no sooner got done commenting on, than I saw this one and now I'm commenting on it! ;)
So, yes, I enjoy writing FanFictions--more so than reading, but I like those too if they're well-written.

I read and write it, and I enjoy the story if it's well written.

What stories do you normally use as a basis for your fanfics?

Back before html & websites were popular, I used to read a lot of stuff that was in the various newsgroups, particularly Star Trek fanfic. I also had some stuff I had written myself, but I was never able to finish for posting. Some of the stories were better than what we have seen & better than some of the Pocket Books novels, & others, not so good.
There was also some Battlestar Galactica fanfic, most from before that new series butchered up the original story. Same thing - some was good reading, & others, not so good.

It hit me not too long ago that I had actually started writing fan fiction before any of it was really spread around, as it is on the Web sites today. I've written Queen fan fic and New Kids on the Block fan fiction, as crazy as that sounds. lol I won't let anyone read it because the stories are so stupid.

That's awesome that he's making money off of his writings. I could never bring myself to actually have my fanfic published. lol

I realy love fan fiction. It helped me to learn and develope my style and to see what I liked and why I liked it. It's a writing tool that should be used and not made fun of.

First off, I love your avatar. Johnny Depp is love.
I'm the same way. I've noticed over the years as I've written my fan fiction, that I've gradually gotten the conversations of my characters to flow more smoothly, the plot points to be more realistic, and other things like that. From writing fan fic, I've gotten the courage to step out and create my own characters and my own stories, like the one I'm writing now, called "Reminiscing".

I love fan fiction. Sadly most of the shows I love to watch are no longer on the air. So fan fiction keeps them alive for me. I all so write fan fiction.

lol I'm similar to you, particularly when writing Harry Potter fan fiction. I tend to write Snape completely out of character because I don't like the way Rowling fleshed out his canon character, plus I add in a lot of my own characters as well.

I dont know what it is. i havent ever heard of it before. I think there are many things that you can write,a nd if this is something that you think you would like you should go for it and try to write it. What is it? Can you elaborate on what this is? I guess fan fiction is something that people who read it and write it know what it is.

I'll use an example. "Harry Potter" fanfiction is extremely popular. Instead of having Lily and James Potter die by the hands of Lord Voldemort, fanfic writers will make up a plot where they survive Voldy's attack and live to fight another day. It's basically just taking characters created by a published author and putting them into a whole new story which they make up.
I hope that made sense.
