What kind of hair type are you?

This is a bit cheeky, but I've been asked to give advice on a website about straightening different types of hair. See, I got this writing gig a while back, reviewing brands of straighteners, and it was so good the site owner wants more - much more! I'm stuck as me and my girls all have dead straight, mousy hair that's a bit fine. He wants 8 articles on all types of hair and how to use GHDs on them. So far, I've gone for fine, dry, curly, thick, medium, afro and colour treated - but the guy wants 500 - 700 word essays giving advice on using heated hair appliances for each, and I was wondering - any hair stories you can share? Whar hair type do you have? What problems does it give you? Do you use heated curling tongs or straighteners on it?

My hair's perpetually straight. When it's long, I do use a curling iron because I have always wanted to have nice, sexy curls. It's still a bit short now because I was asked by my doctors to cut my hair short before my surgery. When it grows again, I am seriously considering getting a Digital Perm for beautiful curls that look absolutely natural.

A lot of the newer irons are made for both curling and strsightening, as they're rounded - my daughter bought a pair but, to get better curls, she increased the temp without using a heat protective agent. Biiiig mistake, even on thick red hair! Sorry to hear you've had to have surgery and cut your locks short. I definitely recommend you treat yourself to that perm!

I'm growing my hair back and I'm totally excited about it. It's a little above my shoulders so I should have the length that I want by the year ends. I have to make my hair extra long before having the treatment Digital Perm because once it's done, my hair will be about 2 inches shorter. By the way - what brand of curling slash straightening iron is this? Sounds like it's good. I'd like to check it out.

Hi jazzsue, I had curly hair and didn't have to do anything with it, but due to my anti-convulsant tablets my hair has gone straight but when washed it is all frizzy so I use hair straighteners-GHD's-to straighten my hair when it is straightened it is lovely, but hair is fine too so sometimes just flys away so I have to use a cream to smooth it out. Now and then I have extensions to give it a bit of body and it helps my hair to grow to also it gives me a boost of confidence in myself...LoLo

I know - hair products etc help, but it's not the same as being born with luscious locks - or having the ones you had when you were younger. I think it's the menopause - mine has even changed colour, from copper gold to mousy grey! I can't believe that, at 22, I was in tears because my hair was so thick it looked like a wig - or so I thought. Looking at those photos now, it looked like I had a full head of hair extentions! Why did I ever complain ...

i have really fine and straight hair. i've tried using heated curling tongs on it but the curls would only last for a few hours. i also have a very difficult time keeping my hair clips in place as they just slide off my hair. one good thing is, i never really have to comb it often.

My hair's like that. The only way I could get it to style nice was by not washing it - after a night on the tiles it was greasy, dirty, clammed up with hair mousse and stank like an ashtray - eeuurrgh!

The articles I'm writing are as much about why people don't bother with styling products as why they do - my hair is short, because it was just too much to think about when it was long!

Good day Jazz. I don't have a good hair. It's not so smooth or thick. My hari is also wavy and black. But I like it the way it is because however, it looks good on me. But Istill want to improve my hair though.

hi, i have got curly hair n i dont think i have got any problem with them..but my gurl does...she everytime complains about her hair. shes got thin and scanty hair. every now and then she goes for blow dry. she says that she had good long and thick hair wneh she was in school, but suddenly she started loosing her hair. till now she has not found the reason for the same. she tries her best to grow them long but she has many split ends so her hair does not grow. i have brought her a straightner, but she is not so used to handling it...i am just waiting to see when she will b using it instead of spending money in the parlours.

My hair is think, little hard and very long. It is always in dry condition so I need to use hair conditioner everytime after washing my hair otherwise, it gets very uncomfortable and difficult to comb. I use the curl hair things once in a while when I go out but it hurts my hair a lot... put on some hair oil beforehand will help.

I have a natural wavy hair. Although I love the natural waves it gave me... vain and adventurous as I am, I tried other hairstyles. I've tried to rebond it to make it straight. Curled it... and have tried small curls, to big bouncing curls. Have also tried it as long as almost reaching my butt... and have tried it as short as the famous posh, Victoria Beckham hairstyle (not sure what it's called, but it's really short for me). I am not that familiar with products I put on my hair. I basically go to a salon, and ask the hairstylist of what product suits my hairstyle. Most of the time, if they have it available, sold in the salon, I'd buy it. The tools I used to maintain my haorstyle are: hairblower, and flat irons. Conair is a good brand to start with... just in case you needed to research on brands too.

i have thick, beach wavey hair. not curls, but beach waves and it's really thick. it usually takes up to 45 minutes to get really straight with a RUSK straightner. i use Got2Be heat defence on my hair, and it's helped. my hair usually ends up frizzy and fried from straightening it all the time! the heat defence from Got2Be really helped... gives me a lot more control and keeps my hair from getting frizzy and dry. obviously, it happens, but it slows it down which i need. i straighten my hair everyday and dry it with a hairdryer. sometiems ill straighten it more than once too, so this stuff really helps.
