Why is it that you are so good, and only remembered when you are dead?

Just a point that popped into my head. Why do you guys think this happens? Its like, when you have become an icon in the political industry, then one scam you're caught doing, that reputation you built for years is ruined. And, what people will think of you is not the reputation you built all throughout your life, but that one deed, that one bad mistake that you have done.
Why do you think this is?

yes,quite agree.That is the rule of life almost in every field.Actually,people tend to believe good things and cherrish the past one.So only the past should be remembered.That is why,and there is reason to explicate.
