Ipod for music or storage?

My first ipod was 60gb, back then my pc only had an 80gb storage, so having an ipod with 60gb storage seemed godlike! After a few months, i realised that around 30gb of the memory was being used by random files of my pc, and only 4gb was music! It eventually occured to me that i had actually started using it primarily as an external hard drive rather than something to listen to music on! Do you do this too? Is this a universal thing with ipods with decent amounts of storage? Or was i just an odd person for using my ipod as an expensive external hard drive? xD
